Notes

You won't want to miss this one-hour narrated tour of over 100 historical points of Key West and all of its eccentricities.

Excursion Description

The Conch Tour Train is the most popular tour in Key West.  Since first opening in 1958, it has entertained over 15 million visitors to the Island City.  Just recently, (2010)  it was named the No. 1 guided tour in the state of Florida by Florida Monthly Magazine and the Conch Train is one of the Top 10 most popular attractions in the state of Florida, all for good reason.

Our expert “Engineers” have been extensively trained to share the legends and lore of this charming tropical paradise.  Key West was once the largest city in Florida, the wealthiest city per capita in the United States and the largest producer of cigars and natural sponges in the country.  Since the Navy first came to Key West in 1823, the island has always been an alluring favorite to visitors like John James Audubon, Ernest Hemingway, President Harry Truman, Tennessee Williams and many, many more.  On your tour you will learn what made Key West the richest city in the United States and hear about the golden days of settlement when Key West was on the farthest frontier of a young America.  Then you will hear about the Great Depression, the hurricane that destroyed Henry Flagler’s railroad, the building of U.S. 1 and the arrival of the navy during World War II.

Come with us and relive 400 years of history and, like so many visitors before you, become enchanted by the stories, sights and sounds that are Key West.

NOTE: Kids 12 years and below ride for free.

How The Tour Works – A 60-MINUTE TOUR– HOP ON-HOP OFF

Seeing and hearing about Key West has never been easier.  Order on line with CCL or see your Shore Excursion Desk.  If you have booked other activities on the island or are a little short on time, take our 60 minute, Hop On-Hop Off Introduction To Key West tour and you can get on and off near Key West’s best attractions.  This tour stays exclusively in the Old Town Historic District and covers the most important places to see in Key West.

Your tour starts at Mallory Square which was the traditional hub of industry for two centuries and now is the center for visitor activities.  From there you will make your way through Old Town and have the opportunity to disembark at the main street intersection of Duval Street and Truman Avenue.  This is within easy walking distance of the Southernmost Point in the continental United States, South Beach, one of the best beaches in town, the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory, the Hemingway Home and Museum, the Key West Lighthouse, and the art galleries that are found on upper Duval Street.

Re-board the train and continue to the Historic Seaport district where you will find the Flagler Railway Museum dedicated to Henry Flagler and the railroad that connected Key West to the mainland of Florida.  We have even arranged for you to have complimentary free admission with the purchase of your train ticket.  Walk past the tall ships including Key West’s Flagship the “Western Union” and yachts, or stop in at one of our waterfront restaurants for a taste of our world class seafood.

Next, catch the train and return to Mallory Square, home to the Key West Shipwreck Treasures Museum and the Key West Aquarium, Mel Fisher’s Treasure Museum, the Audubon House, Truman’s Little White House, themed retail shops and the best conch fritters on the island, and just a short jaunt to Hemingway’s favorite bar Sloppy Joe’s on lower Duval Street. “We Make Vacation’s Better”® on the World Famous Conch Tour Train.
