Excursion Description

Visit Machalilla National Park, a preserve with a 30 mile beach, a tropical dry and cloud forest and 2 offshore islands, with the opportunity to see birds and fauna and take a swim.

Start your tour of discovery traveling along the road known as the “Route to the Sun,” passing the new residential areas where wealthy Ecuadorian seafood exporters live.

You’ll head out into the countryside where you will be able to see the landscape change from dry and barren to lush and bountiful. Pass scenic beaches, quaint fishing villages with the typical bamboo homes of the region and the magical figures of the bottle-shaped kapok trees, characteristic of the tropical dry forest, on your way to Machalilla National Park.

You will visit the small archaeological site museum of Agua Blanca where more than 40 families live and are dedicated to the preservation of their culture. Here you will learn about the burials in the ancient times.

Enjoy a 1½-hour optional walk to observe colorful birds, and unique flora. Fig, laurel and palo santo trees are commonly seen here. The residents offer wonderful artisan jewelry made from local shells and the tagua nut (vegetable ivory) for purchase.

After enjoying a delicious, poolside buffet lunch at a charming hotel, continue your journey to Playa Los Frailes, one of the most beautiful beaches along the whole South American Pacific coastline. Here you will have free time to swim and relax before returning to the ship.

How to leave a great review

All you need to do is share your honest opinions. (Just make sure it doesn't include personally-identifying information or pricing information.) Try to remember as many details as you can about your experience - the more you can add to it, the better. We'll also ask you to score the excursion based on Value, Convenience... and perhaps most importantly, Fun.

Why reviews are important

Reviews help cruisers just like you make more informed decisions when planning ways to spend their time ashore. They also help Carnival understand which shore excursion operators are providing our guests with fun experiences that meet their expectations, so that we can constantly improve our shore excursion lineup across all ports of call that Carnival visits.

Getting started
