Excursion Description

Lose yourself to the captivating views of Cartagena as you journey through the famous “Manga” residential district, home to some of the most ornate mansions and beautifully sculpted homes of the city.  Following your drive, arrive at  La Popa Convent, and marvel at the breathtaking views that surround you in every direction. Over 400 years old, La Popa Monastery was built  where local Indians and fugitive black slaves used to meet, and is today one of Cartagena’s top tourist destinations. Wander through the tranquil grounds, explore the onsite museum, and see the majestic Virgin of Candelaria statue, celebrating Cartagena’s patron saint.

Continue your journey with a photo stop at the largest and most important work of Spanish Military engineering in South America — Fort of San Felipe de Barajas —, built in the 17th century,

Your next stop is at the walled city, enjoy exploring upon its bastions and walking through the narrow- colonial streets of the Old City, see flower-filled balconies as you stroll, you will pass by the charming colonial architecture to the oldest church in the city: the Church of Santo Domingo,  which was built in the late 16th century. Continue your walking through Cartagena’s Squares Plaza Bolivar, Plaza San Pedro and Plaza de la Aduana.

Then, before you transfer back to the ship, make a quick stop at Las Bovedas, more commonly known as the Dungeons, originally built for military purposes as barracks and munitions depot, today  is housing a colorful artisan center where you can find all kind of handicrafts and souvenirs.
