How do I get to the Port of Charleston?

The Port of Charleston's Cruise Passenger Terminal is located in downtown Charleston, in the heart of the historic district. On the day of your cruise, the Union Pier Terminal Main Gate will be your entry point. 

Travel Time: 12 miles from the Charleston International Airport; travel time is approximately 30 minutes.

Directions to the Port:

Traveling from I-95 North or South and I-26 Eastbound

  • Take I-26 (S.E.) toward Charleston.
  • Follow I-26 East into Charleston.
  • Take Exit 219-B (Morrison Drive and East Bay Street).
  • Turn left at the foot of the exit ramp. 
  • Cross over King Street, then cross over Meeting Street.
  • Once you cross over Meeting Street, you are on Morrison Drive
  • Stay on Morrison Drive (the street name will change from Morrison Dr. to East Bay Street).
  • Follow the green highway signs to Union Pier Terminal.
  • You will pass a U.S. Post Office on the right.
  • From East Bay Street, turn left on to Chapel Street at the light.
  • Follow the green highway signe to Cruise Ship Terminal/Union Pier Terminal.
  • Chapel Street will change name to Washington Street along the route.
  • Chapel Street/Washington Street intersects with Calhoun Street at a traffic light.
  • At the intersection, there will be yellow A-frame signs in the roadway with directions for "Cruise Traffic." Follow the yellow signs. The yellow A-frame signs will direct you to Union Pier Main Gate. All cruise traffic enters the area via Union Pier Main Gate.

Traveling from U.S. Highway 17 Southbound
(from Myrtle Beach and North Carolina)

  • Enter the Charleston area via the City of Mt. Pleasant.
  • Follow 17-South sign to the Ravenel Bridge across the Cooper River. 
  • Cross the bridge.
  • Take Morrison Drive/East Bay Street exit from the right lane of the bridge (first exit).
  • Turn left on to East Bay Street from the exit ramp at the foot of the bridge.
  • Follow the green highway signs to Union Pier Terminal.
  • You will pass a U.S. Post Office on the right.
  • From East Bay Street, turn left on to Chapel Street at the traffic light.
  • Continue to follow the green highway signs to Cruise Ship Terminal/Union Pier Terminal.
  • Chapel Street will change name to Washington Street along the route.
  • Chapel Street/Washington Street will intersect with Calhoun Street at a traffic light.
  • At the intersection, there will be yellow A-frame signs in the roadway with directions for "Cruise Traffic." Follow the yellow signs. The yellow A-frame signs will direct you to Union Pier Main Gate. All cruise traffic enters the area via Union Pier Main Gate. 

Charleston from U.S. Highway 17 Northbound
(from Hilton Head and Georgia)

  • Enter the Charleston area via Highway 17-North.
  • Follow the signs to Interstate 526 East. 
  • Once on 526 East, take #17 to I-26 East - towards Charleston.
  • From I-26, take exit 219-B (morrison Drive and East Bay Street ramp).
  • Turn left at the foot of the exit ramp.
  • Morrison drive will turn into East Bay Street. Stay on Morrison Drive/east Bay Street.
  • Follow the green highway signs to Union Pier Terminal.
  • You will a U.S. Post Office on the right.
  • From East Bay Street, turn left on to Chapel Street at the traffic light.
  • Continue to follow the green highway signs to Cruise Ship Terminal/Union Pier Terminal.
  • Chapel Street will change name to Washington Street along the route.
  • Chapel Street/Washington Street will intersect with Calhoun Street at a traffic light.

Port Parking: Rates are subject to change:

  • $15.00 per day - for standard vehicles up to 20 feet in length
  • $35.00 per day - for oversized vehicles over 20 feet in length (RV's, campers and busses)

A complimentary shuttle service operates between the vehicle storage areas and the Passenger Terminal. The areas are just a few minutes from the Passenger Terminal, but the shuttle provides a comfortable way for passengers to arrive at the check-in locations. Handicap accessible shuttles are also available.

  • Vehicle storage is available on port property, in a controlled access area available to cruise passengers - not the general public.
  • The site is secured and patrolled by the Port Police during the cruise.
  • Full payment due upon entering the parking area. The driver will receive a color-coded claim ticket that will help identify the storage area on the return date.

Port Police will be stationed along the travel route to direct guests to the appropriate parking areas; shuttle bus service is provided between the parking area and the Cruise Ship Terminal.

  • Indoor and outdoor parking areas. Secured parking on Port Property, patrolled by Port Police; limited access, available only to cruise ship passengers.
  • Full payment due upon entering the parking area.
  • Accepted forms of payment: U.S. Dollars; Traveler's Checks; Personal Checks.
  • No advance reservations required
  • Oversized Vehicles (over 20 feet in length) will pay $35 per day.
  • Handicap Parking available with proof of valid permit.
