Family Cruisin’

Tuesday, December 15, 2009 by Jaime Deitsch

Once you set foot on board a Carnival Cruise ship, you have the perfect opportunity to leave all of stress from home on the pier… No need to worry; it will be waiting for you when you return. Once embarking on a Carnival vacation you have the chance to kick back, relax, enjoy fun filled days and nights while being pampered, spoiled and waited on hand and foot. Having a vacation such as this is especially nice when you are fortunate enough to share it with the entire family. A cruise ship offers fun events and activities for people of all ages, colors and sizes. It also gives the unique opportunity for the entire family to come together as a single unit and create extremely special, fun and memorable vacations.

As an Assistant Cruise Director on board the Carnival Pride, I’m fortunate enough to have the chance to spend time with guests of all ages and so lucky to observe first-hand families growing together, creating lasting memories and a special bond that can only be created while escaping reality and sharing a brilliant vacation with one another. I watch their faces light up when the entire family is posing together for pictures on ‘Elegant Night.’ I see mothers smile with delight as they watch their young daughters get up to dance with the waiters during dinner. I have seen father and sons simultaneously start giggling like school girls after noticing the sunglasses on the towel monkey hanging in their stateroom. One of my favorites is finding out what each family member will do with all of that bingo money after winning the super jackpot $2000.00 Power Ball game.

As a Carnival crew member for more than two years, I’m beginning to cherish the ability that crewmembers have to create a family within our own onboard community. While working on the ship, I have the opportunity to contribute to creating and executing a plethora of family oriented events for our guests during each holiday that arises. On Halloween for example, we have spooky dance competitions, trick – or – treating extravaganzas, and wild and crazy costume parades! Other favorite events take place throughout the entire month of December. The Cruise Director narrates the Christmas story; it’s exciting to see each Cruise Director add their special touch. The Carnival singers and dancers celebrate by performing a very special Christmas show for all of our guests. During this holiday, all of the children on board will have the opportunity to sit on Santa’s lap and collect Candy Canes from the elves! I strongly encourage each and every one of our Carnival guests to cherish the time they have with their families on board, no matter what the occasion. Even though I don’t always have the opportunity make it home for the holidays, I feel so fortunate that I can live vicariously through the families on board as I watch them appreciate the wonderful vacations they are able to share with one another.

    Jaime,

Thanks for making our Christmas Cruise aboard the Pride a great experience.  You and the entire Entertainment Staff do an incredible job and really make the experience that much better.  My only regret is that I was too sick to see my daughter, Jessica, in the mixologist judging.....but I have the video.  Hopefully the next time I am able to cruise I will get some sea legs.

Thanks again and please forward a big "Thank you" from the entire Keener Family.  Chrissy, Charles, Jessica & Kimberly.

Our family has reservations for the Pride for December 2010 during the holidays and was wondering when the formal nights take place and what activities are planned for New Years Eve? Does the Pride have an enclosed pool that we can take advantage of since we're traveling during the  winter months? Plus I would be interested in hearing about the various activities that would take place on the cruise during this time of the year. Thank you
