I am booked on the Legend for a western caribbean on april 11, 2010 and was just informed today that my passport was denied due to child support arrearages. Will i be able to cruise with birth certificate and drivers license or will I be prohibited to cruise.

All you need is original birth certificate with the seal not a copy and an id

My boyfriend ran into the same problem.....  Nice of them to let you know that child support is a reason for denial ..... after they have your money!!!!!   NON REFUNDABLE.....   don't ya love it...   We are going to the Bahamas and were told that birth cert and photo ID will be enough as long as he doesn't have to fly back...   Good luck.....   they also kept his birth cert. and we had to get another.

Also if there is a warrant out for him be aware. He will probably be arrested when the ship gets back to port.

    jj48chris:

up to date on payments, just have arrearages from about 10 years ago

Has he been to court to resolve those arrears?  I mean, has a judge accepted a payment plan or something like that?

The reason I asked, is that simply having arrears should not stop you from getting a passport, as long as the situation has been resolved to a judge's satisfaction (again, that there is a payment plan and his is current on that too).

Child support: the only US debt that is allowed to defy the Constitutional prohibition against debtor prison.

Are you from PA...  that is where we are from and the same happen to us.  My boyfriend has not missed a payment in like 10 years and talks to his childrten everyday.  Also pays on the arrears weekly but it takes a long time to get it paid off.  It adds up fast when your not paying it ...  By the time he is done paying support and the arrears he brings home $130 a week ....  No way he could live on his own .

You should mind your own business for one, and not that it is any concern of yours, but I do pay my child support every week!

it doesn't matter if you are making the payment or not, which i am, if you have any arrearages you are denied passports in the US
