the port side of lido deck is for smoking,  and in all the cabins there is smoking except for the spa cabins that are non smoking.

there is a small section of the casino that you can smoke in and at the tables in the piano bar.   on the lanai, the port side is for smokers

Is it that way with all ships, I do not remember having a smoking room on the Legend when we were on it. We are taking our kids on the Elation this time around and have a couple that are really senstiive to smoke even after a room has been cleared out. I really do not remember the rooms being smoking. The only place I remember smoking around rooms were the bacony rooms outside. I would be okay as long as they get all of the smell out of the room so a non smoker would not be able to tell. We had been in rooms before that were smoked in and them cleaned and it did not work.

the only ships that have smoke free cabins right now are the Splendor and the Dream,  the Magic will have them when she starts to sail

We sailed the Dream in December and she is the most controlled ship where smoking is concerned that Carnival currently has.

While Carnival does allow smoking in all the cabins and balconies EXCEPT the Spa Cabins  (so I would book one of those balconies if possible on the Starboard side) ...  we have never walked into a cabin and detected the smoke smell  (and I have a VERY fickle nose).

The only "problem" area on the Dream that I found was there is one section of the Piano bar that is a designated smoking area and it will drift into the Promenade space IF there are a lot of smokers there at one time.

All the Carnival ships use designed smoking areas....to stop someone from walking to and from a venue with a lit cigarette.

While smoking is allowed in the cabins, it is not allowed in the hallways....so smokers are not allowed to prop their door open to "air out" their cabin....flooding the hallways with smoke.   We have had this happen on several cruises.  On the Miracle our hallway looked like a fog machine for 7 days....so understand it can happen.

If smoking is an issue, also be aware that RCCL does not allow smoking in the cabins...only on the balconies.  So they may be a better fit for you.

    We have COMPLETED THE FLEET!!!

If it is Carnival and it floats...we have sailed it.  (and some that aren't floating for Carnival any more)
