this is our second cruise on carnival. the first cruise was on glory in early 2011 before funship 2.0 came out. it was a bit different but also kind of the same. the food on both times were amazing and the quality of it has not been compromised in the 2.0 upgrades. on the liberty, i like the addition of the guys burgers and blueiguana cantina. the burgers are amazing and i really hope they get franchised onto land. in the dining room, both times the waitstaff were above and beyond my expectations. the food both times in the dining rooms were the same and the quality was great. the waiters were very personable and are generally interested in knowing YOU. also, the time you get your food was about the same as any land restaurant. before the cruise, embarkation was extremely fast if you show up early enough. i was on the ship within 20 miniutes! my first cruise on glory, it was almost two hours. quite a difference. for the most part, the staff on the ship were great. our stewards were the best anyone could ask for. Rambert and Alvin on deck 11. they really did go above and beyond. however, there were some incidents where i encountered some very rude staff members. they stick out like a sore thumb among the really great ones.
both encounters were on deck 5 in two different cases. one was in the "fun"shops where i was treated very rudely. i am a student pilot and i have my private lisence. i was in the shop because i wanted to know what an aviator watch was. he asked if i was a pilot and i said i am and he said "you should know what an aviator watch is if youre a pilot." and he looked at me like i was the stupidest thing in the world and started quizzing me and asking me to tell him what the special features are about the watch and he said "i wouldnt fly with you if you dont know what the difference between an aviator watch and a normal watch is". that was pretty un called for and very out of the ordinary for a carnival staff member. i told him in my 300+ hours of groundschool, i never heard of one. he was VERY rude. my next horror story was in the casino. i had to cut through the casino because the ship was very over crowded. i stopped to chat with a friend and a woman security guard came up and told me to show her an ID. without asking, she swiped my sail and sign card out of my hand and scanned it and rudely told me to get out because i am unteraged. i did not even play any games nor was i even there for two miniutes. i am 18 in less than a month. i can understand being kicked from the casino but i do not like the rude treatment because i am in my late teens. i never go looking to cause any trouble but i do not like getting treated like the biggest peice of scum on the ship. i am a person too and i would like to be treated as professionaly as anyone else on the ship. hopefully this can be resolved. i expect service that is equal for everyone. regardless of age.
other than those unusual incidents, the service was pretty good from the restaraunt staff, cleaning staff, lido staff and stewards. the ship itself is beautiful and looks much better than the photos of it. the rooms are much like any other ship. the smoking policies are slightly different than land for anyone who is sensitive to tobacco products.
my last complaint, i do not like how carnival is always trying to nickel and dime you for everything. its hard to explain in a review but, you will know what i mean when you are on the ship. that would explain the low fare.
other than that, carnival is a great entry cruise line for first and second time cruisers. just not for teenagers... after a sail or two with carnival, i would try princess or costa.
sorry for the long review, keep up the good work and please fix the unprofessional service on deck five!!!
