We had such high hopes for this trip even though Splendor has such a troubled past. First time on this ship we encountered rediculous embarkation time in Long Beach with long lines and a filthy ship the whole trip on the Mexican Riviera. This trip started much the same. Embarkation was a nightmare with a 2 1/2 hour waiting line and chaos getting on the ship at every turn, the first day at sea 3 out of 4 aft elevators were not functioning during peak morning limiting handicaped passengers difficulty in getting to different floors, the limited smoking area was even more limited with half of deck 10 aft closed off due to "cleaning" even though no one was cleaning. Smoking was VERY limited and no access at all to the Lido deck pool area to enjoy the big screen, my wife was on Breeze in June on the inaugural voyage and she says she was able to sit and watch movies on deck 10, if memory serves me well there was smoking on Lido on our first cruise aboard Splendor The entertainment was poorly planned and due to the amount of days at sea should have been plentiful but was very limited, the musical groups on board were amature at best except for Guy and the 4 piece rock band (can't remember their name), this trip was an mature group but the music was not generation oriented at all unless you like rap, hip hop or alternative. There was 2 country nights that lasted a mere hour that was a big hit in the Red Carpet Lounge but one minute past the hour they reverted back to disco and the full bar soon emptied out, I approached Malcom (WOOHOO) about extending the time of the country music and was blown off, stating he'd get that info from his DJ. The activities constantly were changing and there was hardly any consistancy to the daily planner. Breakfast/ brunch in the resturant was cold everyday except the last 4 days of the trip and service was so slow it took 1-2 hours to finish a meal, milk was difficult to get and we ALWAYS had to ask several times at each meal, the food was mediocre at best, ribs were merely pot roast and there was more than enough broccolii and sweet potatoes to last me a lifetime. TV was off line most of the trip due to "satalite interference" but the internet was available(for a price). Karokee is one of our favorite past times on the ship and it too was disorganized to the point of being pathetic, the screen for the lyrics was in the middle of the dance floor preventing anyone from dancing or even paying attention to the singer. This was a sick ship also, almost everyone on board was sick and coughing even the crew. Sick bay was constantly full and any medication was at rediculous prices. On 2 out of the 4 ports there wasn't even an announcment that we had ported, total guess work as to when we could get off the ship. Excursions were outragiously priced and limited, on the ship a whale watching tour was $100 and advertised on shore it was going for $40. In our experiences cruising to book excursions with the cruiseline is a waist of money because they are easily found off the ship for much cheaper. Debarkation was also a nighmare, this is my 5th cruise and i have never experienced such a cluster!! We always do self checkout without any problems but they called too may decks too quickly causing a massive traffic jam on deck 3 with disabled people right in the middle of the chaos, it was HORRIFIC!!!!!!! The service in our cabins was fantastic, Reynaldo and Iputy were totally awesome and helped us with everything we needed wish we could have taken them home with us (LOL), Noel in the resturant was excellent but we were only able to have him as our waiter twice because we do My Time dining and Joanne (head waitress) was wonderful and very accomodating ALWAYS!!!! We are normally not complainers and usually take our bumps with a grain of sand but with this being such a long cruise we feel there were alot of issues and we understand that the crew was also sick and they were short staffed but with embarkation/ debarkation those things should have not factored in. We would also like to give huge KUDOS to John Heald for sending my mom chocolate covered strawberries and champagne on her birthday, LOVE your blog and facebook entries everyday wish every CD was as humorus and experienced as you, your a definate asset to Carnival!!!!! Next time Splendor dry docks please paint a 4 leaf clover on her side to give her better luck.
