where to start.
The pluses of our 8 night cruise: The staff- Great.
Great room stewards, great hostesses in the Your Time Dining in the Black
Eagle. Especially Sharon ... so very friendly and accommodating. Studi
and his crew was a fantastic wait staff. The Maître D was absent from our
table. I couldn't even tell you what he looked like. Other than that, the
restaurant staff was top notch.
The shows we attended were good. I must say, having attended the
Broadway play The Lion King just prior to sailing probably isn't fair to the
entertainment staff of the Splendor, but almost anything is going to be a step
down from that. The comedians were good. We only attend the family friendly
shows. Capone, you are a funny man. Great show. The magician was great. The
juggler was amazing. Good stuff.
The ship was amazingly clean, perhaps the cleanest of our 5
The tender process for Half Moon Cay was amazing. The system of
going to the theater to secure a tender ticket eliminates the huge crowds in
the hallways on deck zero. Great idea Carnival. We were on another
Carnival Cruise and the tender process was so disorganized that my wife nearly
passed out from a panic attack in the press of the crowd.
Now the negatives: Being senior sailors, we were
disappointed that there was no hot tub/s on the Serenity Deck. What's up with
The Splendor isn't the smoothest ride out there. It tends to dip
and dive even in the calmest of seas. Didn't bother us, but if you're sensitive
to it, beware.
The food: Honestly, this was the worst food of any of our 5
Carnival cruises. It was so bland, especially the buffet deserts. The dining
room food was better, but the buffets were very ordinary.
Now, for the part that I hate to mention: The young man who sang
in the Lobby, Juan ... there's just no way of delicately saying this. WHO THE
HECK AUDITIONED THIS KID? The young man was flat on every song he sang. I
honestly thought he was singing Karaoke when I first heard him. I know music.
I've been involved in directing choirs for over 30 years. I honestly
would not find a seat for this young man in my choir. I truly hope he doesn't
see this review, but someone from Carnival needs to because I was embarrassed
for the cruise line. If anyone doubts me, just find someone who has an educated
musical ear and ask them to go listen.
All in all I was very happy with the cruise. Nothing's ever
going to be to everyone's liking but I'd cruise the ship again if they add a
hot tub to the serenity deck (hint, hint).
