Sail Date: 08/01/13
We sailed last week on the Elation. it was my husband and I with our 16 year old daughter and 12 year old son. First the ship: it is in great shape, very clean and well maintained. The cabins are nice. Ours showed a little wear and tear but nothing out of the ordinary. Our beds weren't set up how we had requested but the steward corrected it while we at dinner the first night, not a big deal. There is plenty to do while on board. We played bingo (20.00 for a card with 3 games), watched the show that is like the Newlywed Game (so funny!!). The passengers that played it were great! We also saw 2 other shows as well as skits that were done by the entertainment staff. We loved it all! They have a scavenger hunt, movie trivia and other things to do.
The staff: Everyone is wonderful!! At our first night at dinner they sang happy Birthday to our son. His birthday was 5 days earlier and they totally surprised us, our son loved it!! When we first got on the ship and up to the Lido deck, the servers are kind of pushy with the drinks. There are many servers and I think every single one of them kept asking if we wanted drinks. It is their job and that is how they make a living. It seemed as the cruise went on it got better. Again, no biggie, just said no thanks. They are attentive and go out of their way to be sure you have everything you need. One server that we loved filled our water bottles with ice and water. Wasn't necessary but he insisted. We also saw him in the Mikado lounge and were excited to have him as our server.
The Lido/Pool: So much fun. We definitely were in vacation mode!! They play great music and throughout the day have various activities going on. While we didn't participate, it is a blast watching :) One night it was a Fiesta night. Music and dancing on the Lido deck. Couldn't help but to get out there and have fun!
Kids Activities: Both our kids went to them the first night. They had a good time. Though it seemed after the first night the kids seemed to hang out on their own. Our son really enjoyed basketball, dodge ball and ping pong. My only complaint was that the 15-17 night activities started at 11. Kind of late in my opinion.
Food: It was good, and there is a variety, especially at Tiffany's. We did anytime dining and it seemed a little rushed. Next time we will do a set dining time. I think it is a great way to meet people. We chose anytime dining so we could do stuff at night. Though we found out there are many shows at various places and times.
Entertainment: All sorts of it. We did shows that were family appropriate...the main shows and comedy. The kids really enjoyed the shows as we did too.
It was a great first cruise...we are already talking about doing it again next year. Thanks Carnival, it was a vacation to remember!!!
