I agree, more cruises out of Norfolk would be terrific. I've gone out of both Norfolk and Baltimore, both are great...Norfolk is a lot closer to us.
I don't know for sure, but I would bet that the issue is profitability. Even though Norfolk is closer to the Caribbean than Baltimore by about a hundred miles, why would Carnival choose to cruise out of Baltimore on a weekly basis throughout the year, with only four or five cruises out of Norfolk each year?
I think the answer is money....I'll bet Norfolk charges the cruise line more than Baltimore to sail out of their facility (which is very nice, by the way.)
I wonder why Norfolk doesn't undercut Baltimore's port charges and see what the cruise lines do then? It doesn't make any sense to me to stand by your price if no one is buying your product (Norfolk's new Half Moone cruise terminal.)
