Looking for any ideas people may have about the best and least expensive ways for getting to the port in NY. There is a group of eight of us sailing out of New York in April and we are trying to get there without breaking the bank. We are coming from Northeast Massachusetts and plan to do all traveling on the day of departure.
We know that the cost to park at the pier is $30/day - that seems outrageous! Plus, we would have to pay that times at least two cars because of the size of our group. What other options are out there? Who has tried what?
Things we have considered and would like feedback on:
1. Renting a van here in MA to drive down; returning the van upon arrival in NY. (Is there any rental car agency close? Will it allow one way rentals? How to get from the rental car agency to the actual port?) Then we would have to do the reverse on the way back... rent a van in NY and return it somewhere here in MA.
2. Ride a bus. (Which bus? Are there bus stations close to the port? Are we taking too much of a risk relying on a bus to get us there on time?)
3. Ride the train. (Which train? Are there train stations close to the port? Is the cost of this worth it?)
4. Charter a van or a limo. (Should we be worried about traffic? How much would this cost? Could eight people ride together?)
Any other thoughts and ideas are welcomed! We want to explore all options and decide what the best way to do this is.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
