Just back from our cruise on the Glory.
Just a few tidbits on Halifax.
When you get off the ships there is a very nice boardwalk that will take you as far as Casino Halifax, it's about a 30 minute walk. So if you are not having much luck on the ship you can try there. There are a lot of nice restaurants in the downtown area. We had lunch at the Lower Deck Pub and it was good. We toured the Maine Museum of the Atlantic, Their main displays concentrate on the Titanic, the Halifax Explosion and the Cable ships which worked to lay phone cables on the ocen floor. The museum also has a large collection of ship models. It rained when we were in Halifax so many people were looking for inside activities and we did find the museum rather crowded. There are pleny of little shops along the walkway, an ice cream place called Cows, you can get a uniquely Canadian treat called a Beavertail on the walkway as well. A Beavertail is a deepfried pastry and I found it to be quite tasty. I had a cinnamon sugar one.
My highlight of Halifax was a tour of the Alexander Keith Brewery, This will take about 1 hour. They have actors who will tell you the story of how the brewery was established, some stories of the early days in Halifax. It really is well done and at the end of the tour you get to sample a few pints of ale. If you enjoy beer, take this tour.
