This cruise is worth every penny! My DH, DD, her BFF, and I did this cruise (alas aboard the Victory) in February 2012. This was President's week, which for upstate NYer's is an expensive week to fly and vacation. However, for us, it was CHEAPER to fly to San Juan than to Florida!!!! Yay! So, I can't even tell you how amazing each island is on this cruise - you are in for a treat! We did a lot of research, and chose a couple of amazing excursions - ziplining in St. Lucia, Catamaran in St. Maarten, and all-inclusive beach day in Barbados. Otherwise, we just explored.
In San Juan, we, too, stayed at the Conrad hotel in the Contado Strip. There are many beautiful hotels along this strip. This area is seperate from Old San Juan and the street is right along the beach. The Conrad hotel itself is a-maz-ing! And has pools, wicked hot tubs, a beach area, and a really nice outdoor space with hammocks, lounge chairs, massage tables, bars, etc. The best part about this location is being on the "Contado strip" (google it, its really nice) There are so many restaurants, bars, boutiques, and it is right along the beach so there are a lot of beach type things, and activities to do. On the strip are restaurant chains (Subway offers an awesome pulled pork sub!) to mom and pop eateries. Lots of trinket shops, some street vendors, and CVS type stores where you can buy soda, beer, wine, etc to have in your room.
These places are used to cruise crowds, and have shuttles to and fro from the ship and the airport, so no worries.
We are absolutely planning on doing this cruise again (aboard the Valor) but we have to get our DH to college first. So worth the money!!!
