This will be our first cruise that we will be taking my wifes service dog. I've been trying to get him used to having
him go in a small area. I built a 4x4 box for him, but I'm having trouble having him go in a small area. Does anyone have any suggestions in preparing him to go in a small area.
We did the same thing, building a 4x4 foot box. We put it in our backyard, but Duncan couldn't understand why we wanted him to go in a small box, when his whole yard was right there. So when we took him to the first cruise, we brought some mulch to put into the litter box (no longer allowed). He still spent the first 24 hours not using it, but then finally did.
Our second cruise we brought over 100 pounds of wet sod to put into the litter box (also no longer allowed). (You should have seen us lifting the sod to go through the scanners before being allowed onto the ship!!) This worked well, as Duncan loved the grass.
Our third cruise we told them we would again be bringing sod, but were told we could no longer bring anything organic to put into the litter box, as the U.S.D.A. was afraid we could be bringing pests aboard the ship in the sod. But Duncan saw the litter box and went right into it. We haven't had any problems since.
Good luck, and have a great cruise!
