Gotta disagree with you on that one.
I don't treat my dog like a human. It's a dog, I know this. I didnt buy a person, I bought a dog. I dont' treat it like a baby, I don't feed it people food, and she sleeps beside my bed, not on it.
But she is most certainly not just a dog. I bought her, I raised her, I feed her, I spent a great deal of time training her, I spend stupid amounts of money when medically necessary. She is most definately MY dog. And I love her. She's a dog....... but she's also a companion, a protector, a source of unconditional love and happiness on even my worst days. With exception of the bathroom she is in whatever room I am in, and is outside with me when I'm outside. She is well behaved, never leaves the yard even if unattended, extremely sociable, and affectionate while at the same time makes me feel safe when DH is out of town on one of his fishing tournaments.
While I would never say that I love my dog more than members of my family, she is in no way "just a dog".
People may not remember what you said, and they may not remember what you did. But they will always remember how you made them feel.
