I got home and took a closer look at the pearl then compared it with my other pearls and it is a fake
How did you compare?
Drop it in vinegar. That'll tell you right quick.
check the merchandise before you walk out
That's good advice for any jewelry store anywhere. Never had issues with Caribbean-bought jewelry, but some peridot bangles I got for my wife several years ago from a joint just down the street had the same issues you found with yours. And they were just as reluctant to do anything about it as you found yours to be.
"You have to go to our [different city] store, because that's where the goldsmith is..."
When is the next time someone here goes to that store?
"The manager is going later today."
Can the manager take it down to the goldsmith?
"The district manager would have to approve that."
Can the district manager approve that?
"The district manager is in the same store with the goldsmith. You'd have to go down there to find out."
I am firmly convinced that at this local jeweler's other store, the give the same rigamarole on flawed jewelry sending them back up this way. The whole thing is a racket. Doesn't matter where you go.
