My first cruise was on the Carnival Splendor in May 2011. For those
that don't know, the Splendor had a fire in November of 2010 (I believe
that was the correct month). I think it was back in service about 2
months before my first cruise. I knew about the fire and heard terrible
horror stories about how the ship smelled of smoke and how people were
upset that they booked on her, how they were worried she'd have another fire, blah, blah, blah. If I had had a bad
experience on the Splendor, I wouldn't have booked with Carnival again.
The only smoke I smelled on that ship was while in the casino and it was
coming from a nearby smoker. The ship was beautiful. She ran great! We
had zero issues on our cruise, except that I wasn't thrilled with my
seating area in the main dining room. (my own fault for not checking
when we got on the ship). We had SO much fun, we were booking our second cruise a few months later.
I was on the Dream last year. Another
beautiful ship, although I really did enjoy the Splendor much more. If
given a choice between the 2, I'd choose the Splendor. ooh, and we had the BEST
waiter on the Splendor. Kudos to Petar!! Wish I could have him on every
cruise! Sorry, just had to throw that in there.
My point is, the
Splendor had a fire very similar to the Triumph and after they did all
the repair work and prettied up the ship, I had no reservations about
going. I didn't even think twice about it and it was my first
cruise....with my boys. It didn't smell of smoke and frankly, everything looked new to me. It was AMAZING! The Triumph will be gone through with a fine
tooth comb (so to speak) as they're not going to put her back out to sea
until they've done so and know that she is safe. I wouldn't hesitate to go out on her when she's
back in service except that I believe she only does 3 and 4 day cruises.
I need my full week fix, more if I could get the time off work! (=
