If anyone is looking for a good hotel room before or after the cruise, I would highly recommend the Best Western Long Beach (there is more than one BW, so make sure you get this one).  They were great to work with, the rooms were nice and not very expensive (under $100).  Best thing is they provided free transportation to and from the ship and to and from the airport if you needed it.  They also provided transportation for us back into downtown Long Beach so we could do some sightseeing and such after our cruise.  we stayed here after our cruise and were off the ship by 9am, check in wasn't until 3, but they worked with us to give us an early check in for only $15, well worth it to have somewhere to stay.  Plus they extended our checkout time for us the next day.  very  nice and clean hotel, area around the hotel wasn't the best , but we weren't planning on wandering around at night anyway.... great deal for the price and very nice people to work with.

This is great information. Thank you. We are flying in on September 22, 2011 for the 9 day cruise. We have no choice but to come in the day before. We were looking for a hotel near the port.

Does anyone have any other suggestions that they have stayed for a park and cruise deal? I am thinking I am going to do that, but would like the nicest place I can for the money.

This is from cruisecritics message board:

the Queen Mary and the Hotel Maya are 2 good choices. The QM is a 5 minute walk (at most) to the check-in area;the Maya is 1 mile from the pier & has a free shuttle. The Maya has a Carnival code for $99/room. Enter 0560018220 in the space for Corporate Account Number. There are only a specific number of rooms available at this rate on any given day.

I booked the Maya and it worked. It is right next to the QM and is a beautiful hotel. I am glad I found this post!

Thanks for the info Dirk.  This is where we were thinking about staying.  It does look beautiful and modern.  Are there any restaurants within walking distance?  Any info for this area is greatly appreciated.

I just booked the sleep, park and cruise package at the Crowne Plaza in San Pedro. Starting in Sept the Spirit will be berthed in San Pedro and not in Long Beach per the San Pedro port web site. The package is $200 for 1 night stay (4star), up to 14 days parking, breakfast and free shuttle to and from the port. I did a lot of research and decided on this one for the shuttle. I know the price is a bit high but we are close to the port and an easy drive for us to get there. Our cruise is 10/21/11 9 days to Mexico.Wink

After booking the Crowne Plaza, I called the BW. Their rate for 1 night and 9 days parking is $180. So for $20 more we will stay at the CP. There is a restaurant on site which makes things easy.

      Hi there :)
We've decided to come in a day early and stay at the Queen Mary. We will be taking Amtrak into the area, and Amtrak transportation leaves us right in front of the hotel :)

I just booked my cruise on the Splendor for 2012 and thought I would check in here. I had stayed at the Maya hotel and it was very nice. The staff were courteous, the rooms were clean, well decorated and comfortable. The hotel was is a great location. There isn't any restaurants within walking distance except for the one at the hotel and possibly the Queen Mary's restaurants. I would estimate a 15 minute walk. The Park and sail work awesome. The hotel has shuttle sign up at the front desk and it just takes a few minutes to ride the shuttle van over. Be aware if you have a large group with a lot of luggage, it may take two trips.
