Will Mobile be getting another cruise ship to come in?  Will the people that work at the port be transferred to New Orleans or another port? I do hope they will stay employed; however, I will not drive to New Orleans to get on a cruise ship; Mobile is so convenient to us (North Alabama), the drive is not bad, once we are at the port everything goes smoothly and I just like Mobile!  Anyway, now that I will have to look at other ports (Florida) than I will be looking at other cruise lines to book on, what the costs are, the itinerary, etc.  I am really sad about this, but hopefully Mobile will work hard and get another cruise liner in there.

Don't hold your breath.. the only reason Mobile ever had a cruise ship there in the first place was because of tragedies in New Orleans... Now that Carnival realizes New Orleans is once again the major tourist destination it was pre Katrina, they have given it back their second ship, which should have been returned long ago.

Maybe Royal Caribbean should put a ship in Mobile... They would go well together with that port... Both their ships and the port are sub standard... a good marriage I would think!

As a VIP with 14 cruises under my belt...I agree with YOU Tay.   With the exception of the Port of San Juan, Mobile is as organized and friendly as I have seen.  New Orleans and Galveston are HORRIFIC and unfriendly.  Miami and Port Everglades rank only slightly higher in my book.  Very much a shame indeed that Carnival is leaving Mobile.  I, like you, do hope another ship/cruise line sees fit to call it "home" very soon!

Jerry, what's with the pessimism? I think Mobile is a great area to have a Carnival ship. You're just rude. Stick out tongue

I just ran across this subject line and I too love the Port of Mobile.  In my opinion as well as others stated here, it is the best port I have boarded from and I have been to many!!  While New Orleans has more to do as a tourist city, the boarding and parking at the port is not very user friendly.  I understand that the river in Mobile has a small turning radius and only allows for smaller ships.  That is too bad for the City.  With the economy being this dry, departing the City is a financial move that will hurt the City and some cruisers as well.  From my front door the difference between driving to Mobile or New Orleans is only 1 mile.  I would rather spend that one mile in Mobile but..........

Bless his heart! Jerry's just reaching out & impressing everyone with all his Southern charm & tact!  Isn't he delightful? Don't we all want to hurry out to Biloxi so we can experience even more of his positive attitude?  I know I'm planning a trip to Biloxi soon -- just keep on shining, Jerry!  Big Smile

I think Jerry is a little bias because he grew up, lived in or had a mistress in  New Orleans (Not sure which).....Personally, I've sailed out of both and it's a lot easier in Mobile, although the ride down the Miss River is a lot more scenic than Mobile bay.......

Hope you enjoy your trip to Biloxi....Was there this weekend and must have missed Jerry's positive attitude.  Maybe I didn't look in the right casino.......
