DW and I are here now.  Flew in yesterday evening.  Leave on the Carnival Glory tomorrow.  This is an excellent hotel.  It is very nice.  Room is large.  All rooms are suites.  Nice pool in a courtyard.  Good breakfast.  For fast food restaurants (yuck) there is McDonalds and Subway nearby.  For full restaurants, there is a Peruvian restaurant and a Cuban restaurant nearby.  There is also an NFL Sports bar and grill.   DW and I are staying here for a night after our cruise ends.  I'll definitely stay here next year when we sail on the Liberty.

Hello Butch! Thanks for the update on the Comfort Suites. We were waiting for your visit to decide if we wanted to book that hotel in April.

There was mention of a courtesy van. Is the hotel close to any shopping like Bayside Market place or Coconut Grove? Also, is there a CVS or something near by to purchase soda?

The courtesy van only goes to the airport and the port of Miami.  The nearest shopping mall is about 7 miles away.  There is a metro bus line that stops near the hotel.  We did not take the bus but I noticed that one of the bus map routes went to the mall (can't remember the name of the mall - there were 2 malls w/i a block of each other).

I did not see a CVS or Walgreens but there are 2 convenience stores.  Valero gas/convenience store is just across a side street from the hotel.  The other is about a block away.  DW and I wiil stay here again next January.  The only thing I could complain about is that the hotel is on a very busy street (6 lanes) and the cars zip along about 50 mph.  There is a sidewalk but it is right up against the street.  Where I come from, the sidewalks are separated from the streets by a 4' grassy strip.  Once we learned our way around, we took the side streets.

Thanks for all the info Butch! I trust the hotel shuttle to the hotel and port was to your liking. We are

still on the fence as we have never been to miami and want to experience bayside market so we are thinking about

      the Holiday Inn POM.

      Thanks again,

Dee, the shuttle to the hotel and port was great.  When we called from the airport, it only took about 10 minutes for the shuttle to arrive.  Going to port, the first shuttle left at 10:00am.  Most hotels won't start the port shuttle service before 10:30.

We had never been to Miami before and you won't see it from this hotel.  To take care of that, we booked the Carnival South Beach excursion for the day of debarkation.  It was the best thing we ever did.    The excursion only cost $29.95 pp. and you get a guided tour of South Beach and then are given 3 hours on your own and can lay on the best beach in Florida or walk along Ocean View Dr. in South Beach and shop your heart out.  The excursion then takes you to the airport and you arrive there at 1:00pm.  The excursion gives you priority for debarking the ship.  No waiting, no hassles.  It costs $20 pp to just take the Carnival shuttle to the airport.  For only $9.95 pp more we got the excursion.  We were in no hurry that day because we stayed in the Comfort Suites one more night before flying home.  When the Carnival excursion dropped us off at the airport, we merely called the hotel and their shuttle picked us up within about 10 minutes.

We were on a large tour bus like Greyhound and the tour operator put all the luggage in the bus.  The luggage stayed in the bus until we were dropped off at the airport.  It all went very smoothly.  I might also add that after dropping guests off at the Miami airport at 1:00pm, it then went to the Fort Lauderdale airport and was supposed to arrive there at 1:40 or earlier.  So, regardless of which airport you fly out of, you can take this excursion, as long as you have a late flight or a flight the next day.

This is great advice! Thank you... I can't decide if I want to stay in South Beach or have a hotel with a shuttle. Do you have any pictures of the comfort suites? I can't seem to find any on their website.
