What happens if the boat crashes? Is there an optimum spot in the ship for safety? Who evacuates first? Are there enough rescue boats for everyone? What happens if a rescue boat malfunctions?

      BertY:

How safe do you feel on board Carnival? How much safety training must you undergo? Is there anything specific, safety-wise I should know before I book a cruise?

      BertY:

What is the general warning system for danger on board?

      BertY:

What should I do if there was a fire on board?

      BertY:

What should I do if there is a leak on board and I must evacuate? What are the general safety rules for emergencies? What do I do if I have small children and older family members with me?

      BertY:

Is Carnival doing anything extra to prevent a similar "Italian" accident from occuring on one of their ships?

Well it depends on which part of the boat crashed. Fore, aft, midway? And did it make a hole or gash? Or did it just get sandbarred? The optimum spot to be on in a crash on a boat is as far from the crash point as you can get. And yes there are enough boats and the first ones evacuated are the first ones to get there. Well if a boat malfunctions I suppose we double up on the rest of them or we swim.

Do not worry about 'what ifs'. This reminds me of my Brother in law. We needed a couple of storm doors replaced and he was supposed to do them. After waiting forever for him to do the job my sister in law and I decided to do it ourselves. We got the doors and tools and picked a time we were both off and started on the project. My bIL came rushing out to give us a 45 minute speech on what could go wrong and were we prepared for all those things. I told him to shut up and we would deal with what went wrong if and when it did. Half an hour later we were done with the job.  We spent more time listening to him tell us what could go wrong than we did doing the job.

Point of the story is- Things do go wrong from time to time. But if we spend our lives worrying about what could go wrong and what do do if it does we forget to live our lives to the fullest and to enjoy ourselves in as many ways as possible. Live, love, laugh and if it is your time to die then die with dignity and not mired in the fears of 'what if'....

If there is any sort of accident on a Carnival Cruise ship the captain will summon the crew to their muster stations.

Outside your crew quarters are posted and the deck locations of your muster stations.

On just about every cruise their is a Drill.  After Summoning the crew to their muster stations.

The captain will blow the ships horn and summon you to drill muster station.

The same is for the drill as a real emergency.

Okay, Bert.  You've had your fun; I've had mine.  Pointless pre-panic serves no purpose except to assign responsibility for your paranoias to someone else.  Either you are going to cruise or you are not.  If you are, then these "questions" are impertinent; if you are not, then they are simply tasteless.

SIG: If you're going to create the drama, at least supply the popcorn.

Big Smile Ross, thanks for my wake-up giggle.

I think the safest place for this person is on land, in his own bed, under the covers, with his head covered by a pillow.

TOTALL WRONG!!!!  On every cruise there is a MANDATORY DRILL, EACH AND EVERY CRUISE!!, and here in the U. S. it is performed prior to ever leaving the dock.

If the OP would just pay attention at the drill, there will be no need to ask any of those questions. Calmness and common sense will save a lot of lives in an emergency.
