      Hello Everyone!

My boyfriend and I are cruising the Ecstasy come March to the Bahamas. While I have been on cruises before, this is the first one in my adult life (I'm in my mid 20's) which means all the planning is left to me. The whole process is very very fun, although there is just one aspect looming over me. I'm PETRIFIED to lose my passport during one of my excursions because either they're involved with water or have a high activity level. I'm planning on making copies of my passport to leave in my luggage, as has been recommend before on the boards. Is it acceptable to take my passport card onshore with me and leave the passport in my safe in the room, or is this not a good idea? I've searched over several FAQ's and haven't been able to come up with an answer.

What do you do with your passport off boat?

      Thanks for listening :-)

Probably should be the other way around.  Passport on you, passport card on ship.. Remember, card is only fancy BC and ID.  It cannot be used for flying.  Passport is the trump of all.  I'd say, stop worrying, unless you are one of those people who tend to misplace and lose everything.  Relax.... no one's going to attack you and grab your passport, etc. (unless you put yourself in harms way).  Same aas here in the states.....use prudent care.

If you have both, take the card with you and leave the passport in the safe.

I always leave the book in the safe and take a photocopy of it with me

If I'm on a Carnival excursion, I don't take my passport off the ship. Just my DL and Sail and Sign card.

Passport book with you off the ship. The whole point of having one while cruising is if an emergency comes up you will be prepared even when in a foreign port. The card would not be a bad idea for backup in the safe if something happens to the book while visiting ports. While for an ID $150 is steep but you are less likely to lose it than other items that people unfortunately but commonly lose of higher value; cell phones, cameras, jewelry.

Sorry, just had to ask...Why did you spend the money for both a passport and a passport card?

      9. You need a credit card or a drivers license to lock the safe on the ship (it is free, you use it as a key). This sucks because I wanted to lock them up, but you needed it to lock it, and you can not use your sail n sign cards.

Hang on to used-up gift card.  You can use any card that has a magnetic strip on the back.   I save gift cards I deplete and use them as my safe key.   Also, there are 3 casinos close to my home, so some of use bring our casino cards and use them.  That way we don't have to worry about losing a card with any real value.

No problem. We live in Nh, relatively close to Canada. We then keep the passport cards in our wallets with our licenses. A lot of times we'll be on a day trip or boating, and we like the idea of just being able to hop the border as we please without worrying about whether we brought our passports or not. Next weekend we're heading to Montreal for a visit :-)

      This is what we use.http://www.swimoutlet.com/product_p/21695.htm

I had asked Mary and Mischelle  the following ...

OK Ladies you might need to do some work on this one, LOL

I just read something .. not on here but that other forum ... I have not read this in my 400 days of prep for our cruise. Needless to say I am curious what the official answer is.

If passengers miss the ship at a port and they do not have their passport with them. Does CCL send security to get the passport from their safe and give it to the port agent?

Part 2 Does CCL or port agents make the arrangements for the passenger to meet up with the ship at the next port and add the charges to the S&S account?

This is the exact statement I read ... Contact the port agent for your ship. They will help you make arrangements to fly either to the next port or home, to book a hotel, etc. Everything will be charged to your onboard account.

Followed by .... Also, the Port Agent will usually have your passport if you left it in the cabin safe. They may also have other things like cash and/or credit cards in the safe.

      Hi Devoted2B,

First off; shame on you for venturing away from Funville! Just kidding, we have great friends over there at cc. Smile

If you miss the ship and we know ahead of time that you will be missing the ship, meaning there is some sort of medical emergency or you have in some other way be in contact with us, then we will (with your permission) have security retrieve your passports and whatever else you request and give them to the port agent.

If you will be re-joining the ship the port agent will assist with those arrangements and they will be at the guest's expense.
