We are taking a cruise in March to Progresso and then to Cozumel. Have heard the beaches in Progresso are dirty so we are looking for something else to do there. Has anyone taken the Merida City overview or the Dzibilchaltun Ruins tour?

In December, I went to Dzbilchaltun ruins and the did a tour or Merida with AutoProgreso for $45. AutoProgreso provides the free shuttle from the pier to downtown Progreso. They have an office at the Cruise Center.

I enjoyed the ruins very much. There is a great museum there also. The good thing about Dzibchaltun also that there is a cenote that you can swim in as well as see the historical sites. The governor's mansion in downtown Merida is very impressive and has some nice murals and paintings about the history of the Yucatan.

Progreso is a great jumping off point to the ruins, so I would encourage you to visit one of them, rather it be Dzibchaltun, Uxmal or Chichen Itza. Save the beaches for Cozumel.
