YES! I had a blast! Did the same cruise last year with my husband and teen daughters. This time around it was just my mom and I. Very fun and relaxing.
We took a bus to Cocoa Beach in Florida. $6 each way. Took us to a nice quiet area of the beach. I think pretty much everyone in tat area was from the cruise. We rented beach chairs and umbrellas and spent the day there. Several little local resturants/bars close by if you get hungry. A few little beach shops too. The weather was great and the water was very warm and nice.
We did our own thing in Nassau. We shopped at the straw market for about an hour. Then headed to Junkanoo Beach for the rest of the day. It's a free beach within walking distance of the ship. Last year it was kind of dirty, broken glass and Iocal were lurking and I wouldn't have leaft my bag in the beach to get in the water. This year it was much better. The beach was clean and security made their rounds. The water is warm, clear and beautiful. Before we left we stopped at a little place on teh beach called "Fat Tuesdays" for a conch salad. First time I had ever had one and I highly recommend trying it! Delicious and the cook cut everything up fresh when we ordered it. Some friends we made did the Balmoral Beach excursion and loved it. Recommend that if yu just want to do beach all day but it doesn't leave much time to shop or sight see around town.
In Freeport we did a snorkeling excursion. Not much to do there if you don't do an excursion. The bus ride out was great. The driver gave us a little tour. Dropped us right at the door we needed to check in. Quick easy and no lines. They gave us an underwater camera to take pictures. Provided water on the ship. The life jackets and flippers were nice but the goggles and snorkel were gross with mildew and mold in the crevices. Lesson learned: they sell new $5 snorkels at the ship excursion desk for a reason!!! They took us out over a reef. It was a nice area but the water was choppy and about 4 ft waves. Being an amateur, I would have preferrred calmer waters. We saw bright colored fish and jelly fish. Nothing big or exciting. Overall it was fun and I'd do it again, just take my own snorkel!!! If you are looking for a beach there, check out Port Lucaya.
We went to the shows in the Taj Mahal several nights. Always very good. The Love and Marriage Show was a hoot! We enjoyed the comedy shows every night and also an adult game called "Conquest" in the Punchliner lounge was a lot of fun. We also sat at the pool on Lido Deck by the stage most days and enoyed constant music, dance parties, scavengers hunts and let's not forget the Hairy Man contest. Always entertaining. We watched karaoke throughout the ship a few times. There is also the Beauties night club if you really like to dance and party. We went a couple nights but a little younger wilder crowd for my taste. One night they had a Mardi Gras party. I think about the whole ship showed up for that, it was a lot of fun...dancing, special drinks etc...
