On this fascinating excursion you will:
- Discover Málaga, the capital city of the Costa del Sol, visiting its main monuments and enjoying some free time!
- Learn the city was founded by the Phoenicians as a colony some 3,000 years ago, it has come under the rule of the Romans, the Carthaginians and the Moors.
- Find out that with approximately 670,000 inhabitants, the city lives a "Janus faced" life as both a busy port and industrial center for the South of Spain. Its ancient streets, lovely villas, lush vegetation and good weather make this city one of the most popular holiday destinations in Europe.
- Departing from the pier, you begin by visiting Gibralfaro’s Castle, which crowns the top of the hill that majestically overlooks the city.
- Discover that a steep path plays as a connection between the castle and the Alcazaba, a 15th century Moorish fort. Together, they form a unique construction that became one of the most important buildings in the city.
- From there, you will continue to the Alcazaba. This Arab Palace was built in the 11th century at the wish of King Badis of Granada. It is perfectly adapted to the lie of teh land, taking advantage of the elevation of the hill. It is made up of 2 concrete enclosures, the outer one being the lower and the inner one serves to house the Palace.
- Finally, enjoy some leisure before returning to the pier.
NOTE: Please note that November 1st, 2009 is a public holiday and only some souvenir shops will be open. This excursion involves walking over cobblestone streets and uneven surfaces; therefore, it is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties. Itineraries may be visited in reverse.
