This 'Once in a Life Time Overland Opportunity' will be a 2.5 day experience with memories and photos to take home for ever.

 Hotel stay will be in a double room at the Eco Inn in Cusco.  Pricing is based on a double occupancy and not per person.

Day 1 ( March 6th, 2009)

  • Upon arrival into Arica port, you will be transfered to the airport by motor coach to take a 45 minute chartered flight to Cusco.
  • You will be met in Cusco and taken to your hotel to check in and to enjoy some free time to relax and climatise yourself to the altitude before a light buffet lunch.
  • Your afternoon sightseeing the city of Cusco, 'the archeological capital of the Americas' will include seeing this amazing colonial city, built on the foundations of the Inca Palaces.
  • Visit the Koricancha ( Temple of the Sun), where you will appreciate the incredible masonry of the Incas, the Plaza de Armas and the Cathedral with its carved woodworks, altars and paintings.
  • Continue with a drive to the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman and to the underground cave and temple of Kenko, the ruins of Puca-Pucara and to Tambomachay, known as the Bath of the Incas.
  • Your evening will conclude with dinner at your hotel and time to relax for your early start the next day.

Day 2. ( March 7th, 2009)

  • Enjoy an early morning breakfast before you meet your guide and transfer by motor coach for approximately 1.5 hours to the train station for your rail trip to Machu Picchu.
  • Your train journey will take approximately 1hr 20 minutes and will take you through the scenic Inca countryside as you enjoy a breakfast snack onboard.
  • Upon arrival at the Machu Picchu train station, you will walk the short distance to the minibuses standing by to drive you the 25 minutes up the windy mountainside road to the citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the most renowned examples of Inca architecture, surrounded by cloud forest..
  • Located between 2 peaks of Huayna Picchu ( Young Peak and Mach Picchu ( Old Peak), this famous site is lost in history, recently discovered in 1911.
  • Enjoy a guided excursion of this amazing site, a complex of engineered terraces and aqueducts leading to the Temple of the Three Windows. See here how the sun's rays pass through this temple to illuminate the Sacred Plaza and observe the curious stone block believed to be a solar clock.
  • After your memorable tour of this breathtaking and famous archeaological site, you will be driven back down the mountainside into Machu Picchu town for a buffet style lunch in a local restaurant before returning to Cusco the same way you came, by train and motor coach.
  • Enjoy dinner once more at your hotel in Cusco.

Day 3 ( March 8th, 2009)

  • You will be transferred early in the morning for your regular 1 hour 10 minute hour flight from Cusco to Lima, Peru.
  • Upon arrival into Lima, enjoy a 45 minute "Panoramic Lima' tour of the beautiful city of Lima before returning the ship, already docked in Callao, Lima.

Your excursion includes the following;

  • Sightseeing and an English Speaking local guide on your day excursions and an escort throughout your full Overland tour.
  • 2 night accommodation in Cusco, based on your request of either a single or double occupancy. 
  • All land and air transportation, transfers and airport taxes from leaving your ship to returning to your ship.
  • All meals and entrance fees, as specified
  • "Panoramic Tour of Lima" upon your return to Callao, Lima, Peru.

 

Your excursion does not includes the following;

  • Refreshments, bottled water, telephone calls, laundry, gratuities, room service, or fees for doctors visits and prescriptions/medications.

 

Useful Information. Please read very carefully the following information before booking your Overland Tour;

  •  Altitude; Travelling to Machu Picchu and Cusco will mean an elevation of 13,300 feet. Altitude sickness can affect anyone. Please arrange for a full medical check up prior to embarkation when planning an overland excursion. Ask about preventive measures for altitude sickness. Whilst at these high altitudes, please eat light and avoid alcoholic beverages. Should you feel the effects of altitude sickness, all hotels in Cusco are equipped with oxygen, whcih is available for an additional charge. This excursion is not recommended for any guest with heart or breathing problems.
  • Dress Code; Please pack a waterproof jacket, sunscreen, water, umbrella and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes. Include long pants and clothing to layer for through the day.  Evenings at hotels are casual. No formal wear is required. Always pack an extra pair of socks. Include any medicines you require.  Bring a backpack or zippered tote to carry other essentials like sunglasses, hat, collapsible umbrella, binoculars, sunscreen and insect repellent.  Please try to limit your luggage to one carry-on bag per person.Lockers are available at Machu Picchu to store items that you do not wish to carry, for a small charge. Your hotel room in Cusco is equipped with a hiar dryer. Outlets operate on a dual 110/220 current. Please bring an adapter for rehcarging camera equipment or other items.
  • Currency; Although most venodrs in Cusco and Machu Picchu accept US dollars, it is recommended to carry some small local currency too. You can change currency at your hotel in Cusco. You will need your passport in order to exchange travellers cheques. The Libertador accepts most major credit cards.
  • Flights; Air travel can be subject to delays due to weather, mechanical problems or schedule changes. A photos ID is required to board flights and the train to Machu Picchu.
  • Visas. Visa requirements apply for any Nationalities needing visas to enter Lima, Peru. Please check with your Embassy, if unsure.
  • Baggage; Please limit yourself to either one carry-on bag per person or one suitcase for two people.
  • Walking; This excursion involves alot of walking over uneven terrain and steps, so please wear comfortable and sturdy walking shoes. This excursion is not recommended for any guest with walking difficulties, or in a wheelchair, due to the amount of walking and numbers of transportation needed to get from one site to the other.
  • AC. There is no AC on the buses in Cusco or Machu Picchu and no AC on the train to Machu Picchu.

 

Very Important.Cancellations; Due to prepayment for flights and hotel accommodations, this excursion is non refundable from 30 days prior to the cruise. It is 50% non refundable from 90 days prior to cruise.    Any bookings cancelled within 30 days of your voyage will be accessed the advertised cancellation fees on your shipboard account.
