Launched in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins, the fourth annual Dolphins Cycling Challenge (DCC), a two-day, tri-county, cycling event with ten ride options from 13-170 miles, benefiting the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, will take place on November 2nd and 3rd, 2013. This vital community initiative is a collaborative effort between the Miami Dolphins and the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, with 100% of rider-raised funds going directly to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The DCC is dedicated to raising funds for lifesaving cancer research at Sylvester. It serves the mission by donating 100% of the money raised by the riders to Sylvester; supporting healthy lifestyles; and encouraging community awareness, education and support of cancer research at Sylvester. In the past three years, the DCC has been an enormous success, attracting more than 3,000 participants and raising almost $4,000,000 for cancer research and treatment at Sylvester.
Money raised by DCC riders has gone to support multiple research programs at Sylvester. These programs include research into novel treatments used through their clinical trials; support at alex’s place (a kid-friendly, 3,200-square-foot pediatric hematology-oncology clinic designed to empower young patients and support their families); and the Adult Stem Cell Transplant Program – a treatment for patients with various types of blood cancer and hematological diseases.
For child and pre-teen riders, the Dolphins Cycling Challenge offers various courses set-up on the grounds of Sun Life Stadium, through the DCC Kids Ride. Individuals and teams interested in participating in the Dolphins Cycling Challenge are encouraged to visit www.rideDCC.com.
Carnival has supported the Dolphins Cycling Challenge for the last two years. This year, along with generously supporting the work of the organization, Carnival has established a team of riders! The Carnival Team, led by Anne Bramman, Senior Vice President & CFO of Carnival Cruise Lines, will be riding the Miami Century Ride & the Miami 30 route and volunteering along the way at water stops. Carnival knows the value of supporting the local community and believes that the DCC is an excellent way to build a team environment of giving back.
