INITIATIVES

  • Florida International University, School of Hospitality & Management
    Renovation of the 2,600-square-foot multi-purpose facility named the Carnival Student Center, as well as the establishment of Carnival-sponsored scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Family Literacy Initiative
    Founding Sponsor of what was originally called "I’m a Reader Kit" and was redesigned in February 2009 as the Love.Read.Learn! journal. This interactive journal offers training to the families of preschool and elementary-age children for parents to learn the best ways to encourage their child’s education. This program, part of the Governor's Family Literacy Initiative, is a grass-roots-level endeavor that is creating opportunities for families throughout the state of Florida.
  • Jackson Memorial Foundation/Holtz Children's Hospital
    Renovation of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Holtz Children's Hospital. The "Carnival Cares for Kids Center" includes 30 special oversized rooms to allow family members to remain with their critically ill children, as well as medical isolation rooms, a sophisticated monitoring system enabling nurses to more easily monitor patients, and a comfortable lounge where family members can relax and rejuvenate during long days at the hospital.
  • National YoungArts Foundation
    Founded by Carnival's Chairman Emeritus Ted Arison, Carnival is the Premier Sponsor of this arts scholarship program which aspires to identify emerging artists and assist them at critical junctures in their educational and professional development, and to raise the appreciation for, and support of, the arts in American society.
  • New World Symphony (America's Orchestral Academy)
    Intensive, three-year fellowship program, which was founded by Carnival's Chairman Emeritus Ted Arison, and offers young musicians a wide range of performance and educational opportunities in both domestic and international venues. Carnival is the Premier Sponsor of the organization.
  • St. Thomas University
    Creation of the Carnival Cruise Lines Science and Technology Building, a two-story 32,000-square-foot facility that includes four laboratories, six research laboratories, five clinical laboratories, four preparation rooms and a media library. Each floor also includes a circular amphitheater. This facility is designed to attract top science scholars throughout the United States and internationally.

PROGRAMS

  • Academy of Hospitality & Tourism/Information Technology
    Intensive five-week summer internship program for students from the Academy of Hospitality & Tourism/Information Technology program available at eight Miami-Dade County high schools.
  • Carnival Kids Program
    Partnership with the Zoological Society of South Florida to provide a conservation and environmental science program for fourth and fifth grade students in at-risk schools throughout Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
  • Carnival Scholarship Program
    Since 2003, Carnival has purchased 15 college scholarships annually through the Florida Prepaid College Foundation for a total of 165 scholarships purchased to date. These scholarships will be awarded upon graduation to qualifying students who previously attended HEAT Academy, an after-school program in downtown Miami for at-risk youth. One of the eligibility requirements of the scholarship program is that students participate in Carnival's Scholarship & Mentoring Program. To date, Carnival has awarded 60 scholarships to graduating Seniors. In 2014, Carnival will have its first class graduating from college.
  • Carnival's Scholarship & Mentoring Program
    In collaboration with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Miami, Carnival hosts an innovative in-the-workplace mentoring program in which management personnel serve as mentors to 97 high school students from Miami-Dade Public Schools who previously attended the HEAT Academy, an after-school program in downtown Miami for at-risk youth. Carnival has also purchased college scholarships through the Florida Prepaid College Foundation to be awarded upon graduation to qualifying participants of the program.  To date, Carnival has purchased 165 scholarships and has awarded 59 scholarships to graduating seniors.
