Ever wonder what it would be like to live on a Carnival Fun Ship? Meet Bill
Filomena. He calls Carnival home.
First of all, Bill isn’t a movie star. He didn’t win the lottery or get lucky at the casino.
In fact, quite the opposite. Bill was a Navy man in the 1950s. And if you think that
working on the high seas is how he came to live on cruise ships, you’d be wrong.
Actually, Bill suffered from seasickness for three years while serving. He never
wanted to go to sea again!
Say goodbye to seasickness. Bill cured that with a motion sickness wristband when
he took his first cruise on Carnival Spirit, to Alaska. Having such a great time, he
started looking into more Carnival Fun Ships and soon the cruises started lining up.
And that’s how the adventure began.
So where has he gone? A better question might be: Where hasn’t he gone? He’s
been on Carnival Splendor, Legend, Sensation and more. His favorite so far is
Carnival Spirit. Because he’s an avid walker, logging 3-5 miles a day, he loves the
Spirit because it’s the only ship you can walk completely around top-side without
going up or down any stairs.
If you’re a people person, then you’re a Bill person. All you have to do is talk to him
to realize he’s a social butterfly. He eats in the dining rooms for breakfast and dinner
to meet other cruisers. He goes to art seminars, and likes to chat it up with the
shopping specialists. And he loves getting to know the cruise directors. Even when
he’s not cruising, he’s emailing the friends he’s made on cruises or getting invites
to visit their homes. Simply put, Bill doesn’t just meet people — he makes lasting
friendships on each and every cruise.
But that’s not all! Sure, we asked him lots of pressing questions, like which towel
animal is his favorite (he couldn’t choose just one). But what we really wanted
to know was: How exactly does he do this? After retiring, Bill decided to sell his
possessions — his house, his car, everything. His goal was to live month to month
on his pension and Social Security. He explains that cruising is a great value. He
has no fixed expenses and his meals are included on the cruise. So living on
Carnival is an adventure for Bill that just makes economic sense. Talk about the
best of both worlds.
When you think about it, Bill’s one in a million. He lives out of a suitcase, hops from
one cruise ship to another and will have 41 cruises under his belt in 18 months’
time. His kids have asked him if he’s tired of all this yet. Bill’s answer? “No. Because
every day I’m living is a good day. And Carnival takes good care of me.” Thanks,
Bill. We can’t wait to see you on the next Carnival Fun Ship!
