We were heading for Cozumel before the hurricanes tore everything up and changed our itinerary so I don't know anything about Costa Maya. Does anyone have any excursions they did there that were really good? We have teenage to senior in our group so we'll probably end up doing a couple excursions, but would appreciate any input.

We too are cruising to Western Carrib.  We just received notice that we are going to Costa Maya as well.  I too wanted any information that anyone can give us.  When are you going and on what ship?  We have a 13 year old and wondered if there are fun "party" things to do with the kids in the evenings.  We love to dance.

Hi again Laurie, you should check out the teen program they have on the ship for the kids, they set up games, dances, etc for the kids. It's call the camp carnival and O2 club I think and is broken into age groups, and there is a description on the Carnival website at http://www.carnival.com/onboardexp_home.aspx. I hope this helps, this is our first time cruising with carnival, but there is defintiely a ton of onformation on their swebsite.     Dean

Hi,

We did a dune buggy and beach excursion at Costa Maya and it was great.  They served  nachos and drinks and  fresh coconuts they had cracked.  We saw monkeys as well.  Not very built up like most of the ports but we liked that.

we were there in November but didn't do any excursions, wish we had though because you were done walking around the tiny town in about an hour or so.

Thanks for the information, we finally decided on the Mayan ruins excursion. Should give us enough time to get back and go through the market place, put down a Margarita or two and dance our way back to the ship.              Dean

just wanted to give you a few tips for the ruins- we went last year... the walk to the ruins is pretty far and there is NO shade on the way-i'm 31 and pretty fit-but even i had to stop a few times-apply lots of sunscreen before you go. and..you dont actually get to go inside the ruins- i was under the impression we would be "touring" inside them-not true. the walk back seems like 3x's as long and just as hot. i will say that we've been on a dozen cruises and this excursion was by far the most organized, most friendly bus driver/tour guide- and when you get back on the bus- the beer is ICE cold (and wether you drink beer or not- you will b/c it's sooooo hot out and you just walked forever)! have fun!

We went to Costa Maya this past January and loved it we took the Dolphin Swim they take you on a 30-45 min bus ride to a place called Uvero Beach it was nice and secluded few other tourist their after you do the dolphin swim you have buses that come every 45 minutes to take you back to the port so you can leave pretty much whenever you get ready they have chairs and umbrellas set up out there a little shop with necklaces and stuff and all of your drinks are free they also have a little restraunt there that was pretty good also We really enjoyed it!

I went on a Royal Carribean cruise and got re-routed to Costa Maya last March.  It was by far the port I enjoyed the most.  I went on the Xtreme speed boat excursion (also offered by Carnival).  The lake is many colors of blue and absolutely beautiful, even more vivid than the ocean!  They served lunch and drinks after the boat ride and we even got to see a spider monkey that lived at the marina.  The bus ride took about an hour, where the guides provided tons of info about the area and at the same time were extremely entertaining.  I danced in the aisle with one of them on the trip back! I definitely recommend the speed boat excursion just to see the lake and hope that you get the same wonderful guides.  I could go on and on about this exursion - too much to write at once!

when we  went to costa maya in april 06 and it was great for a port of call that just opened.we went on the mayan ruins  tour and had the best time.but you do have to remember that it is a new port and not alot of stuff to do.the big salt water pool and swim up bar is also agreat way to spend your time there.
