I will be taking my first cruise on September 07 2008 on the Valor to the Eastern Caribbean for my honeymoon. My fiance and I decided to book a balcony room. When we called our PVP he said he had one extended balcony room left so we took it. He said the standard balcony rooms are 35 total sq ft and the extended are 60 sq ft total. That sounds great to me! I looked up the location of our room on the ship and it is at the very back of the ship as opposed to a location on the side. Has anyone stayed in one of the extended balcony staterooms? What are the advantages/disadvantages to being at the back of the boat? Thanks a lot!

Never stayed at the back, but I hear it is the best kept secret for the great balcony space and these rooms are starting to take off and fillup very fast.Being in the back means you are close to the pizza place  and a looooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggg way to the front. Talk about tunnel vision look down the hallway and it just keeps getting smaller and smaller. Have a great time.

We haven't had a balcony room in the aft but our last cruise on the Conquest was two cabins from the rear elevators.  After being all over the ships, I think I like the aft room best.  You are close to the dining room, Lido aft deck and a lot of the lounges.  The only hike we had was to the show lounge (talouse latruec)on the Conquest.  I haven't had any problems in any of the cabins, including one directly below the show lounge.

Hi

We also are booked on an extended balcony, we have not gone yet, but I looked on Web shots and saw some photos of the extended balconies, they look so much nicer!  Go to Web shots, search with your ship name ex Carnival Valor balcony or back of ship or aft, that is how I found photos of our balcony.  Web shots is also a great way to see many other photos of your ship.  Youtube is a great place to see videos of your ship.  We have stayed at the back of the boat before and don't let people convince you anything else is better.  The hallways are quieter, it is a longer walk to the room, but not that much.

Happy Cruising

I was upgraded last year on the Victory to an extened balcony.  It ROCKED!!!  It was our first cruise and boy talk about being spoiled.  The only issue at all was that my daughter was motion sick for the first couple of nights as the back has more movement than the middle would.  We have a standard balcony on our next cruise and I know we will love it. But if you can get an extended one - go for it :-)

Balcony rooms are great to begin with. An extended balcony has gotta be even better! But the motion sickness factor is definitely a negative. When you are on either extremity of the boar, forward or aft, then you can feel the movement of the boat way more. After having a cabin at the back of the boat, my family and I have always tried to keep getting cabins in the middle of the boat to avoid motion sickness. But, if you won't get sick then I'm sure you'll love it. Balconies are the best!

Oh, and you'll love the Valor too. I took it out of Miami and had a wonderful trip. Have fun and happy cruising!

Are the extended balconies private?

From what I could see from peoples photos and videos posted online and from what people have told me, they are semi private.  It looks like people in the balcony next to you can peek around the side as the side kind of slopes and the people above can see the foot or so closest to the rail. But I have not actually been in my extended balcony yet.
