We will be first time cruisers, w/ the exception of my husband, who is in the navy, but that is definately not the same I am sure.  Wondered if anyone out there has any advice for activities, etc.  We also have a 16 year old daughter and are hoping that there will be plenty of activities for her as well.  Curious if everyone is getting the insurance or not....  Any helpful info, advice or tips would be greatly appreciated :o)

Congratulations! We must fly into ports also  elderly parents-- so we take the insurance. There are other ways to cut cost.

Excursions! Yikes! One good reason to book cruise early, gives all parties plenty of time to research options.  Go with your  instincts . What do you love? This will be my 3rd cruise and these are suggestions that were given to me. Also, all in your party do not have to partisipate in the same  activities.   I always booked (shore excursions)with the cruise ship in the past. Probably a good idea your first time,   (We  now feel comfortable booking  with outside companies.) Great reading is  cruisecritic.com  weave your way through and find >shore excursions,on the message boards. Just remember :Everyone is entitled to their opinion  and they vary greatly. Also one man's trash is another's treasure. Sometimes you read numerous  rave reviews about something you never would have considered. If you are like most-probably you will be torn as to which ONE excursion to choose. That's why folks keep visiting the same islands SO much to see and do in so little time.

Congrats from us as well on that first cruise.  We're leaving on our 2nd cruise in just a little over two weeks....yeah!  From reading all the info on cruise critic, I hear that Carnival has a great 02 club for teens.  We're travelling with our two sons and two grandsons.  You are going to have a great time.  We booked with Carnival the last cruise and loved all the excursions except one (Dominica, crazy drivers and 5 hours of driving, no lunch, etc.)  Do get the insurance, for what you spend on the cruise, it safeguards your trip.  Have a great time!

Hello First timer,

Don't get the insurance it's a waste make sure you ckeck all of your items going and coming.  Your 16 year old will have the time of her life just make sure she don't go into the hallways alone.  The other young men are fresh just make sure she don't give her room number to anyone.  Don't pack a full bag take clothes that can fly in the wind.  However, make sure you and your family dress up for the Captians Mess that is a ball.  (take your own pictures film cost and arm and a leg)  "Last thing on your list just let your hair down and have fun".  (enjoy!!!)
