thanks for the info on the Bayport Terminal.  Looks like a very nice place.  Also plenty of parking available.  Do most folks park at the terminal or make other arragements?  We are driving in (3 hours) and didn't know if we should park at the Terminal or find a friend to shuttle us.  I am leary of the 8 AM return on a Sunday might be a little early for a friend to come pick us up  Cool

I would not worry about the pick up time.  The ship does not get in until 8am, but by the time you get off the ship, get your bags and clear customs it could be 9:30 - 11am.  ll depends on what deck and room number you have.

FYI - Our Carnival Conquest cruise last April 25 - May 4 2008 we did not get out of the terminial until almost 2pm. There were over 1,000 Mexician citizens on the cruise and they all had to clear immigration and customs ahead of us.  We got our call to desembark about 11am. Also, the porters union FAILED to put enough baggage porters on the schedule SOOOO... it as a LONG wait for a porter to load up our bags.  Stood in customs line for about 30 minutes (normal about 10 minutes after a porter load bags on his cart.)

We are driving from Fort Worth, TX to Houston on 09/26/08 to stay with my wife's brother -he just would not have us staying at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow, and has offered to drive and pick us up at Houston Bayport Cruise Terminal. I prefer to stay at the Sheraton Houston Brookhollow.

Use your cell phone once in port and you are headed to your bags to call your ride. Better you wait at the curb than they having to circle the lot waiting.

CELL PHONE NOTE - Be careful not to use your cell phone to early in your arrival at the port that Sunday AM.  Wait till you are about to disembark. REASON - Carnival Conquest cell phone satellite can pick up your signal and route your call through their system at the rate of about $5.00 a minute.

I called on my cell while pulling out of Galveston, TX last April and spoke for about 3 minutes and go a bill for a 10 minute call and about $32.00 on my AT&T cell bill.  Called AT&T and they explained the Carnival Conquest cell satellite system picked it up.  I asked for "mercy" and they (AT&T) dropped the charge.

Does anyone know of a hotel near the new terminal that would take guests to the terminal?

the address is crazy, because if you look at a map you are really between shoreacres and seabrook. i googled down hwy. 146 and checked out the route. you will think you are lost because you go through neighborhoods for miles and miles and miles with two lane streets and no stop lights. how will they park all the cars with 800 parking spots. that is for two ships. even once galveston can open, the beach roads are gone, so the ferry want be an option.

there is nothing, i repeat nothing around bayport cruise terminal so the passengers that takes the ship there rather than getting off in new orleans will be in for a shock. getting a rental car want happen. also i have read over and over, the cars in galveston are history. sure hope this bayport cruise terminal works out because the location is really remote and the traffic down two lane streets should prove to be a mess. we are going end of november so maybe it will be smoothed out by then

snowwhitecsi,

In the last few days, I have called a lot of hotels in Houston, and believe me, most don't even know where the new terminal is, let alone provide transportation. It's not going to be like Galveston. Many are still housing evacuees and aren't even taking reservations right now. We are sailing 10/19/08 and I finally got one today at Comfort Suites in Deer Park, and they aren't even opening reservations to the "public" until the 16th of October. Many parts of Houston are still without power. Another poster's fiance is working in Houston as an EMT, and she posted last night that she had talked to him on the phone and it had taken them 3 hours to get a patient to a hospital with no street lights etc. Folks this weekend aren't going to have an easy time of it.
