I know I'll be limited to what I can eat, but should I let someone at Carnival know about this?  Should I tell my travel agent??  I used to carry an Epi pen, I suppose I should get another, huh?

Yes, contact guest services who will connect you with Guests with Special Needs. They have a form you fill out so the medical staff onboard will be aware of your allergy. And I would definately get an Epi pen.

I would also mention it to the wait staff so they can be extra careful handling your food.

You might want to tell the Maitre De on the first day onboard. That way he'll know that none of your entrees should come into contact with any plates containing shellfish. Sometimes the entrees sit together on a counter until the guests are ready for them.

contact the guest with special needs department and they will make note of it and when you get on board let the Maitre D know, they will make sure that they bring over the next nights menu so they can help you pick out things that will work with your allergies.

Thank all!!  These are awesome ideas that I hadn't even considered.  I'll contact guest services immediately and let the Maitre' D know as soon as I sit down to dinner.

Contact the Special Needs department at Carnival to let them know of your circumstances.  Definitely bring an Epi pen just in case.  Onboard simply peruse the menu to select foods which will not give you any problems just as you would do at home while eating out.  This is a potentially dangerous situation, don't rely on the Maitre D to keep you safe.  The menus descriptions are very good when it comes to stating how items are prepared.

Enjoy!

Let the Maitre De know as soon as you board your Fun Ship (before the lifeboat drill). He will be available in the main dining room at that time. That way he can let your table servers know that your entree should be kept separate from any others that contain shellfish.

You should also put that info in with your booking info on Carnival.com. Also, bring your own epi pen. That way you'll have one with you at meals, even off the ship.

Thank you Sailaway.  I am very diligent when it comes to what I can eat.  I'm very careful in selecting my food items.  If I can't recognize something, then I don't eat it.  I'm usually the one who is questioning the wait staff about my food (it can be frustrating, but to some, it is probably annoying), but I have to be very careful.  Also, I'm going to put the Maitre' D on notice and hopefully an extra eye will be helpful.  Thanks for your suggestions.

I want to thank everyone for their comments.  I talked with my TA today and she immediately indicated she would let Carnival know and that I should also inform the Maitre 'd as everyone suggested.  I'm still working on getting the Epi Pen, but that shouldn't be a problem.  Thanks again!!!
