We have booked a cruise to Alaska out of Seattle on 8/31/09. Can anyone tell me how cold it will be at that time? I know that it will be cool and possible a little cold.

Also it is showing that the shore excursions can only be purchased on board. I understand that due to the possibly of any weather that might cause the excursion to be cancelled. But my question is can anyone give me a price range? We are looking a taking the floatplane to see the bears and possibly the helicopter to see the glaciers. I want to make sure I carry enough money to cover my excursions. I try to have everything paid before we leave.

And last question. Does anyone know if we will still be able to see whales this late in the season? We have seen whales out of San Diego(awesome!!!) and are heading to St. Lucia this January to see them there.

 Thanks ahead of time.

Hi Debbie,

We were on the Spirit in Alaska this past August 19-26.  The cold was not so bad and dress in layers and you should be fine. I would say the temperatures will be around 50-55 during the day. What you do need to remember is to take rain clothes with you. You can expect rain (not hard but a misty spray) almost everyday.

The shore excursion can be purchased before you cruise but usually carnival does not open them up until at least 3-4 months before your trip. Prices really depend on what you want to do. We found the excursions to be a bit on the pricey side however thats what they are. the helicopter and float planes were around $400 per person. We did not do any of the float plane trips but spent probably around $600 dollars with excursions in 3 ports and on our own in one.

We saw about 15 humpback whales, and 3 orca whales, lots of sea lions, and some black bear. You will also see lots of American Bald Eagles.

We took the south bound in august 26 of this year. It got cold at night maybe in the 30s but in the day time it got upto 60s but you are in november so i would be sure to take a jacket. We went on a helicopter/glacier excursion and it was the best thing you can take. It will set you back 400 pp but you are right to worry, cause our first excursion cancel. so we book at the next port. FYI it rains alot, so bring a rain jacket
