Hello, I hope I can get some carification...

I want to do the Wine Tour in Ensenada, and I don't want ot leave my son and niece on board, so we'll be doing all 3 of us...

kids pay just as a regular person, although (obviously) they won't be doing the tasting...

my Q is:

since they give u a free bottle of wine, could they give me..."theirs"...since I am the one paying for all 3, and they don't get any discount for being minors...

it would only seem fair, that the either have a lower price for kids, or...allow me to keep the bottles that would be from their "paid" tour...???

Thanks for any info you guys can give me,

yvillanua

I have done the wine tour several times and have never had kids/minors (under 18) on the tour.  The description of the wine tour specifically indicates wine tasters must be 21 years or older. I wouldn't think they would even offer a free bottle of wine for the kids and therefore no opportunity for you to claim the wine on their behalf.  I think if you decide to take the kids on this tour, you probably should concede the free wine.

But then again, ask the excursion desk onboard the ship before you purchase the tour.  They are the experts!  :-D

The kids will be really bored. I don't believe they will allow them on the tour portion at L.A. Cetto, which lasts about 15 minutes. The drive out there and back is about 90 minutes each way. Last month, about 8 miles of the road was torn up so it was bumpy, dusty, slow going through that section going there and coming back. At neither place we visited was there anywhere appropriate for kids to hang out and/or play.

The bus ride back from L.A Cetto is a loud and drunken affair that is made even worse since you are allowed to open up a bottle (or more) and drink on the way back.

Don't count on it as they are playing in part by the rules Carnival set, as well as Mexican national law. It is an adult tour and there is nothing of interest for the kids, which is part of why there is no discount - they want to discourage their participation.

We did have fun on the tour and liked the drive and narration (when we could hear it). The wines, not so much.

Thanks for the responses...I think I will pass on this tour...

Somehow I thought they would allow it, because we went to Argentina to visit the vinards in Mendoza, and they were spectacular!! Very family friendly, my son had an awesome time learning how its made, and seeing all the production...of course, no tasting for the kids, but he did like the rest of the tours...

Thanks everyone for your insight!!

Matt and Regina,

Would you go on it again? We are trying to figure out what to do, if anything in Ensenada in January.

It mentions tequilla and brandy too. Is that as much as anyone could drink? Ick!

Are the buses airconditioned and new?  The only times I have been to Ensenada was on a bicycle.

For Sally and I, we would not be in a rush to do it again because of the current condition of the road to get to L.A. Cetto and back, plus we did not care for the wines at either place we visited. The second place was a tasting room in town. It would have been really cool to visit another of the vineyards instead.

That said, you and Mr. 4bolts might enjoy it. Aside from the bumpy ride for 8 miles each way, it was a pleasant excursion.

They spoke of how they used to produce brandy at L.A. Cetto and showed us the storage tanks on the tour (HUGE!). There was not at any point any other discussion of brandy, nor offers to do any tasting of anything but the specific wines they were offering.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

I think the AC worked on our bus, but it didn't get far from the back row. They had little blowers duct taped to the overhead luggage bars in three places throughout the bus; they didn't seem to do much. Opening the windows did help. I'd guess thatour bus was built in the 80s. They did have some newer coaches in the parking lot next to ours, so who knows? But maybe they don't want to subject the nicer buses to that road...

So  how about a diffrent approch,,rather then the wine tour,,and not the blow hole, what would be a good excursion in Ensenada.   We have been there before and I am just kick around an excursion that may be fun.  Now I have read recommendations for the wine tour from other sites (the 2 winery one, not the one that includes the blow hole),,I was thinking about that jeep adventure tour,,,but am open to any suggestions.

Matt,

Tony (mr. 4bolts) wants to know if they have a bathroom on the bus.

What is a comparison for the wine they serve? woodbridge?

Seems like most of the tour is taken up with the ride and not the tours. Would guess that in January it won't be terribly hot and I don't really want to do any of the other things offered, even this one, yet everyone wants to do something so this seems the cheapest. As far as seeing the blow hole? well I would rather fly to Hawaii and see theirs again.

I just checked the excursion listing for my cruise and so far the wine tour isn't on there. The blow hole and wine one is though. If we don't do  this one I figure we will just walk into town, have a few drinks, then leave. too bad the fox tour isn't available.

Not on the bus we were on, but if you get one of the new ones it might. The ride is about 1-1/2 hours each way with the slow-down for the construction.

That might be fair. To put it in perspective, they sell most of the the wines you taste at L.A. Cetto for $8/bottle.At the seond stop, they were the same or cheaper.

Seems like most of the tour is taken up with the ride and not the tours.

Yes, especially with the road construction. Though part of the trip is a tour of the wine country, which you get.

As far as seeing the blow hole? well I would rather fly to Hawaii and see theirs again.

Which, this one?
