REO Speedwagon

Bio

Formed in 1967 in Champaign, Illinois, REO Speedwagon is a band with a never-ending desire to give their all to their fans whenever they step onstage. In their early days, the band hopped from small gigs to even smaller gigs, hoping to get their name out. Fans quickly realized that REO Speedwagon wasn’t just your average college party band.

The band’s unrelenting drive, as well as their non-stop touring and recording, helped jump-start the burgeoning Midwest Rock movement of the early ‘70s. Platinum albums and FM radio staples like “Ridin’ The Storm Out” followed, setting the stage for 1980’s explosive Hi Infidelity. REO Speedwagon rode the top of the charts with a string of gold and platinum records and international hit singles. Hi Infidelity’smassive sales were fueled by hit singles like “Keep On Loving You” and “Take It On the Run.” Thirty-plus years later, the album still remains a high-water mark for rock bands, certified nine-times platinum.

At the center of REO Speedwagon’s desire to keep rocking for the fans is Kevin Cronin. With bandmates Bruce Hall on bass, keyboardist Neal Doughty, Dave Amato on lead guitar and drummer Bryan Hitt, the band has remained busy since celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2007. As frontman Cronin once explained: "I am a Midwest boy, born and raised with Midwest values. In the Midwest, we work hard, play hard, and rock hard. I am proud to (…) represent the greatest rock fans in the world."

Even after decades of success, REO Speedwagon still brings their Midwest work ethic to the stage as well as the studio — not a year has gone by where they haven’t performed live, continually thrilling generations of fans with hit-filled sets. REO Speedwagon released Find Your Own Way Home in 2007. Just two years later, they teamed up with their fellow Midwestern rockers Styx to record a new single, “Can’t Stop Rockin’,” which was co-written by the two band’s frontmen, Cronin and Tommy Shaw.

These days REO are still doing what they’ve always done — taking good care of their legacy — through excellence in song craftsmanship and brilliant live performance, while touring extensively and keeping their focus on the future.
