Learn Santo Domingo’s history as you explore the Oldest City in the New World.  

  • Your journey begins with a narrated motor coach ride, for approximately 2 hours, to Santo Domingo.  
  • Founded in 1496 by Admiral Don Bartolomé Colón, the city’s colonial buildings blend with modern architecture to give the city a truly unique feel.  
  • Enjoy an inside visit to the Catedral de Santa María de la Encarnación, the first cathedral in the Americas.  
  • Next, you’ll have a brief photo stop at the Columbus Lighthouse which honors the memory of the Disoverer of the Americas.  
  • Proceed to the Columbus Plaza for some shopping and then continue on to walk through the Colonial Zone. 
  • Here, you will visit the National Pantheon where many Dominican heroes are buried and tour the inside of the Alcazar, the grandiose palace of Don Diego Colon built in 1510.  
  • NOTE:  Water and snacks are included.  Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.  There is moderate walking of approximately 3 hours and also steps on this excursion.This excursion is not recommended for any guest with walking difficulties as it involves walking over cobblestone streets. Be advised that your shoulders and legs must be covered to enter the Cathedral. headphones will be used within the Alcazar.
