Street Car City Tour: Experience Skagway with Alaska’s original city historical tour for an informative fun filled 90 minutes to “all points of interest”. The Skagway character Martin Itjen came here looking for gold in 1898 and became the town’s most celebrated storyteller. He gave Alaska’s first motorized sightseeing tour on his “Skagway Street Car” for U.S. President Warren G. Harding in 1923. Aboard your yellow 1927 sightseeing bus, your costumed “conductor” passes a century of history, behind-the-scenes tales, and stories. Tour the water front and historic National Park. Visit the Gold Rush Cemetery and Scenic Overlook for panoramic views. Learn about life in Skagway, as you drive through the residential district. See historic homes, churches, and the childhood residence of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin.

Notes

Accessibility: Tour is ambulatory accessible; guests must be able to climb four steps (including a footstool) onto the vintage Street Car. Wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated on vintage vehicles; however, guest may leave them at the Shore Excursion booth at the pier for the tours return.

Good to Know: Sequence of tour stops may vary. Dress in layers as the weather can change quickly. Wear comfortable walking shoes, trails at the Gold Rush Cemetery are gravel and uneven with tree roots. We do not visit the Waterfall during our stop. Camera and sunglasses. Guests who leave the tour in town can walk back to the pier or catch the SMART shuttle for a small fee. This is not a hop-on-hop off tour.
