I gave myself a $100\u00a0budget and a limited time frame (a couple hours) to get everything I needed for the trip. My wish list was:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">denim shorts<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">fedora\/sun hat<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">swim cover up<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">dress to wear to dinner<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">those comfy, printed pants that look like pajamas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">To be honest, I didn\u2019t think I would find everything on my list. Shopping in October for summer clothes is\u00a0completely out of season, so I wasn\u2019t feeling too confident that much would be available. Not to mention 5\u00a0items for under $100 is a tall order. I figured I would only find a couple things, but I wound up with everything\u00a0on my list, and my grand total was only $88! (Score!)<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Here\u2019s what I bought:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">jean shorts (photo 2): American Eagle, $18<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">fedora\/sun hat (photo 2): Francesca\u2019s, $10<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">swim cover up (photo 4): Forever 21, $22<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">dress for dinner (photo 3): Forever 21, 18<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">comfy printed pants (photo 1): TJ Maxx, $20<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">I tried on several pairs of printed pants before I found the TJ Maxx pair (photo 1) that I purchased. Photo 2 is\u00a0Macy\u2019s, photo 3 is American Eagle.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/awaywego.carnival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2296\" src=\"http:\/\/awaywego.carnival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG5.jpg\" alt=\"JEF_Post2_IMG5\" width=\"456\" height=\"456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG5.jpg 456w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG5-320x320.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG5-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I searched for denim shorts all summer with zero success, so I was thrilled to finally find a pair! These denim\u00a0shorts at American Eagle were on clearance, hidden on the bottom of a table in the back. I must\u2019ve tried on 15\u00a0pairs. I bought the ones on the left, which are a Boyfriend fit. The ones on the right are Boy Midi fit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/awaywego.carnival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2297\" src=\"http:\/\/awaywego.carnival.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG6.jpg\" alt=\"JEF_Post2_IMG6\" width=\"456\" height=\"456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG6.jpg 456w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG6-320x320.jpg 320w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/JEF_Post2_IMG6-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">One retailer that\u2019s summer-friendly year round is Forever 21. I tried on a ton of dresses for the trip. I got the\u00a0first one to wear for dinner. What are your best vacation shopping tips or finds?<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">My tips for cruise\/vacation shopping:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"p1\">Consider every possible scenario for your trip. What activities will you be doing and do you have\u00a0something to wear for each possibility? Also consider: what can you wear in case of inclement or\u00a0unusual weather?<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Give yourself plenty of time. For my trip to Europe three years ago, I spent several months planning\u00a0outfits and researching climates and activities. Don\u2019t wait until the night before to take inventory of your\u00a0closet and make sure you have everything you\u2019ll need for your trip.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Fashion sometimes means function. On vacation you may find yourself on your feet sightseeing for\u00a0hours, or snorkeling, or doing a number of things you wouldn\u2019t normally do. Consider the function of\u00a0what you\u2019re wearing \u2013 shoes that can withstand a beating, swim cover ups that you can throw on fresh\u00a0out of the ocean, etc.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Think beach brands. If you\u2019re going on an out of season beach vacation, head to stores like Pac Sun,\u00a0Hollister, American Eagle\u00a0and\u00a0Victoria\u2019s Secret that\u00a0carry bathing suits, shorts, cover ups and flip flops year\u00a0round.<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Only buy things you can wear outside of vacation, too. I will get plenty of use out of the swim cover up\u00a0and denim shorts outside of my trip. And the fedora, printed pants, and dinner dress will work for the\u00a0current season (fall). Don\u2019t buy it only for vacation, buy it so you can use it after vacation, too!<\/li>\n<li class=\"p1\">Don\u2019t blow the bank. Along the same lines, if you\u2019re <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/cruising-fun\/how-to-plan\/how-to-budget-for-a-cruise-vacation?cid=icp_awg_awg_02162018\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">setting a vacation budget<\/a>, be sure to keep it in\u00a0perspective.
