Here are some tips for enjoying your holiday travels without letting fitness fall by the wayside.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1) If you\u2019re spending the holidays on a vacation away from home,\u00a0try active sightseeing and fitness-related excursions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rent a bike to explore a new city, go scuba diving or surfing, go snowshoeing or skiing, or simply walk! Matt and I will be ringing in the new year on a cruise with <a href=\"http:\/\/carnival.com\/?cid=So_CM_NA_P_AWG#15_1121&amp;DMP=5019,6120,7036,,8003\">Carnival<\/a>; we plan on picking some fun and active excursions (and\u00a0checking out\u00a0their gym and fitness class offerings, too)! I also\u00a0love running around new towns,\u00a0as you all know\u00a0\u2013 such a great way to tour a new place quickly. Remember my\u00a0awesome\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fannetasticfood.com\/2014\/08\/20\/paris-running-tour\/\">Paris Running Tour<\/a>\u00a0this summer?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.newscred.com\/2ce790adbcf934fb42561c28fbe7b5f8\" alt=\"test\" width=\"428.8916323731139\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>2) Sign up for a holiday race or walk!\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love a good holiday race, and sign up for Turkey Trots and Jingle Runs\u00a0in whatever town we\u2019ll be in for the holidays. Not only are holiday races\u00a0a lot of fun, but they are a great way to stay motivated to train during the busy holiday season. Most cities and towns have gotten on board the holiday race bandwagon; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.active.com\/running\">Active.com<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/runningintheusa.com\/\">RunningInTheUSA.com<\/a>\u00a0are\u00a0good resources for finding races near you. Not finding any that work? Host your own \u201crace\u201d\u00a0with your family! Bonus: you\u2019ll work up an appetite for those holiday dinners!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.newscred.com\/4299718ffe2ff101ffc3440ccdca87a5\" alt=\"test\" width=\"322\" height=\"322.994850669413\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>3) Try out a new-to-you fitness studio. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love using travel as an excuse to try out fun new-to-me workouts or studios. It can be a great way to mix it up from your normal workout routine and try something different!\u00a0Even better is that often studios will offer \u201cfirst class free\u201d\u00a0drop ins. To find a class near you,\u00a0a site I love is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gorecess.com\/\">GoRecess.com<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><strong>4) If studios aren\u2019t an option, design your own workout! <\/strong>Bring resistance bands, a jump rope, and other portable exercise equipment with you, and utilize whatever other equipment you have on hand.\u00a0You might have a hotel or home gym\u00a0full of weights and balls, but if not, get creative\u00a0\u2013\u00a0use chairs for step ups and dips, turn soup cans into light weights, etc!\u00a0If you need some inspiration, pack your favorite workout DVDs\u00a0or try a\u00a0fitness app.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.newscred.com\/6129e9bd5e868b9f880289022276ec83\" alt=\"test\" width=\"428.8916323731139\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A couple free fitness apps I love:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nike.com\/us\/en_us\/c\/womens-training\/apps\/nike-training-club\">Nike Training Club<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a huge variety of workouts\u00a0\u2013 you can select intensity and time, and there are workouts available that don\u2019t require any equipment, too.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/well.blogs.nytimes.com\/2013\/05\/09\/the-scientific-7-minute-workout\/?_r=0\">Scientific 7 Minute Workout<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 this is the online version but there\u2019s also an app that will guide you through it\u00a0\u2013 just search for it by name! I usually do it a few times in a row\u00a0\u2013 it doesn\u2019t require anything but a chair.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hot5.co\/\">Hot5<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 5 minute workouts for those that get bored quickly. From abs to yoga to HIIT workouts and more! Sadly only available for iPhone\u00a0\u2013 can\u2019t wait til they come to androids.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sworkit.com\/\">Sworkit<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a big variety of workouts, including strength training, stretching, cardio, pilates and yoga\u00a0\u2013 and no equipment is required. I also love their tagline: \u201cGet to Swork!\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/pinterest.com\/fannetasticfood\/\">Pinterest<\/a>\u00a0is also a great resource for at-home (or hotel room) workout routines.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.newscred.com\/f22ae3cc5c3e13f245ed805dbb03a9d3\" alt=\"test\" width=\"483.24884080370947\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>5) Incorporate fitness into your family time. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I love taking family walks and hikes during the holidays. And remember that fitness doesn\u2019t just mean organized activity\u00a0\u2013 embrace your inner kid and build a snowman, go sledding or ice skating, or play tag!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.newscred.com\/b33f4dc3da79262c6cc43651d995cbe4\" alt=\"test\" width=\"428.8916323731139\" height=\"322\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All of this said\u2026 be realistic, too! You won\u2019t be able to 100% stick to your normal workout routine during the holidays and that\u2019s okay. It\u2019s a time to recuperate and relax a bit, as well! Be kind to yourself\u00a0\u2013 stay active in ways that are fun to you and incorporate built in fitness into your day to day activities\u00a0(walking, taking the stairs), but don\u2019t stress yourself out if there are days when a workout simply doesn\u2019t happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you stay active while traveling during the holidays? <\/strong>Has anyone else signed up for holiday races already? I\u2019m doing the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alexandriaturkeytrot.com\/\">Alexandria 5 Mile Turkey Trot<\/a> on Thanksgiving morning\u00a0with Matt and my brother \u2013 pumped!
