Since I find inspiration everywhere, my brain goes a little bit wacky when I start to plan. Having a theme or direction allows me to focus. It helps in choosing colors, flavors, foods, decor, cocktails, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Given that it\u2019s the summer, plus the fact that one of my favorite places in the world is the Caribbean, I thought I would throw a tiny tropical-inspired celebration. As you know, I\u2019ve had the opportunity to work with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/?cid=So_CM_NA_P_AWG#1_1107&amp;DMP=5019,6120,7036,,8003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carnival Cruise Line<\/a> over the past year. They have been so good to me and IBC. I felt that having a little party inspired by the Caribbean paradise and my time at sea couldn\u2019t be more appropriate. After all, I\u2019m constantly planning my next cruise in my brain so the two go hand-in-hand!<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully this post will give you a few ideas for hosting a paradise-inspired party of your own.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2822 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG1.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG1\" width=\"616\" height=\"837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG1.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG1-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On my last cruise, one of the ports of call was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carnival.com\/cruise-to\/caribbean-cruises\/aruba-cruises.aspx?cid=So_CM_NA_P_AWG#1_1107&amp;DMP=5019,6120,7036,,8003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aruba<\/a>. As Aruba is known for its flamingos, I decided that I needed a few flamingos at my party. Palm trees were also a must. As you can see, my theme began to come together pretty quickly. Greens and pinks would be my colors; flamingos and palm trees would be my inspiration.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2824 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG2.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG2\" width=\"616\" height=\"453\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG2.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG2-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To get started with decor, I felt a homemade garland was in order. I wanted to keep things simple and easy so I decided to make a palm tree garland out of green card stock and pink string. It was a breeze to make and it turned out so perfect for the party.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2825 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG3.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG3\" width=\"616\" height=\"929\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG3.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG3-199x300.jpg 199w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how I made it.<\/p>\n<p>You will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>palm tree template (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.inspiredbycharm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Palm_Tree_Template.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">free download here<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>green card stock<\/li>\n<li>string<\/li>\n<li>tape<\/li>\n<li>scissors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Begin by printing out the palm tree template onto a piece of green card stock. (A free download of the template can be downloaded <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inspiredbycharm.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Palm_Tree_Template.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2826 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG4.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG4\" width=\"616\" height=\"837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG4.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG4-221x300.jpg 221w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, cut out the palm tree \u2013 I found that I was able to stack three pieces of paper together when cutting out the pattern which was a real time saver.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2827 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG5.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG5\" width=\"616\" height=\"880\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG5.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG5-210x300.jpg 210w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, using some tape (I opted for a pink washi tape.), tape the palm trees to the string. Really inexpensive, quick, and adds a great pop of color.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, let\u2019s talk cocktails.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2830 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG9.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG9\" width=\"616\" height=\"876\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG9.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG9-211x300.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I thought it was only appropriate to serve my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.inspiredbycharm.com\/2015\/06\/spicy-chipotle-pineapple-martini.html\">Spicy Chipotle Pineapple Martini<\/a>. I shared this recipe with you a few weeks ago here on IBC. I sliced up some fresh pineapple, added a slice to the side of the glass, and poked in a fun sunglasses pick.<\/p>\n<p>It was the perfect touch to make these martinis extra cool. After finding adorable flamingo picks I knew I needed some tropical cupcakes. And what\u2019s more tropical than pineapple and coconut?<\/p>\n<p>Thus these Pineapple Cupcakes with Coconut Icing\u00a0were\u00a0born.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2835 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG13.jpg\" alt=\"IBC_Post12_IMG13\" width=\"616\" height=\"911\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG13.jpg 616w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/IBC_Post12_IMG13-203x300.jpg 203w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I love this flavor combination so I\u2019m pretty much obsessed with these cupcakes. I also got the idea to dip the frosted cupcakes into graham cracker crumbs to look like sand \u2013 the perfect resting place for my flamingos.
