However, this past weekend, I finally dipped my toe into the candle-making pool, and now I may never get out. During my last cruise, I had an opportunity to hang out at their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/onboard\/cloud-9-spa?cid=icp_dcs_awg_inspiredbycharm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cloud 9 Spa<\/a>. In an effort to recreate that same feeling of relaxation at home, I decided to get crafty and make some candles of my own using beeswax and essential oils.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6279 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle3.jpg\" alt=\"Two candles on a white tray.\" width=\"456\" height=\"690\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle3.jpg 456w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle3-198x300.jpg 198w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You may remember that in my &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/inspiredbycharm.com\/2017\/03\/decorating-with-travel-souvenirs-part-2.html?cid=icp_dcs_awg_inspiredbycharm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">How to Decorate with Travel Souvenirs<\/a>&#8221; post, I showed you a couple beautiful carved wooden bowls. I found these great wick stickers that make it easy to attach a wick to the bottom of your vessel. In the center, l placed a wick sticker and then added the candlewick.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6284 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle8.jpg\" alt=\"placing the wick sticker and then adding the candlewick\" width=\"456\" height=\"569\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle8.jpg 456w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle8-240x300.jpg 240w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>To keep the wick upright when pouring in the wax, secure it with a bamboo stick and tape.<\/p>\n<p>Next, you&#8217;re ready to melt the wax. Begin by filling a large heatproof glass mason jar with the beeswax pellets. Then, fill a large saucepan with enough water so that the water level is slightly above the height of the beeswax. Place the jar into the water and heat the water until it reaches a gentle boil.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6285\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"636\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle9.jpg 456w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle9-215x300.jpg 215w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Allow the heat from the water to melt the beeswax. You can use an old wooden spoon to stir it every few minutes.<\/p>\n<p>(Working with wax can be messy, so I recommend using older kitchen supplies that you don&#8217;t mind getting a little wax on.)<\/p>\n<p>Once the beeswax has melted, turn off the heat. Then add coconut oil, and if desired, wax dye. A small amount of dye goes a long way so add a little at a time until you achieve the color you&#8217;re after. Finally, add 10-12 drops of essential oil. I used lavender for one candle and sandalwood for another. (Add more drops for a stronger scent.) Stir to combine the oil and wax.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6286\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle10.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"456\" height=\"654\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle10.jpg 456w, https:\/\/www.carnival.com\/awaywego\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/candle10-209x300.jpg 209w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 456px) 100vw, 456px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Carefully pour the wax mixture into your prepared candle container. Also, to avoid tunneling when burning your candles, it&#8217;s recommended that you let the candle burn for an hour or two the first time you light it. Essentially, you want to make sure the entire top melts on the first burn.
