The only dogs Carnival permits aboard our ships are working service dogs, which are legally defined and individually trained to meet disability-related needs by performing tasks. Permitted tasks include: guiding a blind person, alerting a deaf person, pulling wheelchairs, alerting and protecting a person who is having a seizure, or performing other physical tasks. Working service dogs are not pets.

Pets, or service dogs in training, are not allowed aboard. Emotional support dogs, which are not recognized by the U.S. Department of Justice, are also not permitted on Carnival ships.

IF YOU ARE TRAVELING WITH A WORKING SERVICE DOG THAT MEETS THE REQUIREMENTS DESCRIBED ABOVE, PLEASE COMPLETE THE BELOW AND REVIEW THE POLICIES AND PROCEDURES LISTED.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES

Documentation Required: There are two separate sets of documentation required when traveling with a working service dog:

1. Documentation required to board the ship:

  • Current Vaccination Record (must include rabies vaccine and microchip number).
  • CDC Dog Import Form Receipt.
  • If your itinerary includes a visit to Grand Turk (Turks and Caicos Islands), you must obtain an import license approved and stamped from their government.
  • Please submit these documents to Guest Access at access@carnival.com no later than one week prior to your sailing. You must hand-carry the originals on embarkation day.

2. Documentation required by each port of call for your service dog to go ashore:

  • You are responsible for obtaining all necessary permits and documentation required by the individual port authorities. Carnival Cruise Line does not manage or guarantee approval for service dog entry into ports of call.
  • Please visit the Department of Agriculture website, to determine each destination country's policy regarding admission of working service dogs.
  • Once on board, please visit Guest Services who will forward your documentation to the respective port authorities for review. Final approval is determined solely by each port.

Documentation that allows your service dog to board the ship does not guarantee permission to go ashore in ports of call. Guests are responsible for ensuring all port specific requirements are met.

You must hand-carry all required documents (do not pack them in your luggage), including your working service dog's current vaccination records showing the microchip number and your CDC Import Form receipt. Original documents must be presented at embarkation and submitted to Guest Services once on board to ensure all ports of call have the required information prior to arrival.

Failure to have the required documentation may result in your service dog not being able to travel with you and/or be able to disembark at a port of call. No compensation will be issued in this regard.

Please submit copies of your service dog's vaccine records to access@carnival.com no later than one week prior to sailing.

General information to board the ship:

  • All dogs must:
  • Be healthy upon arrival.
  • Be at least 6 months of age.
  • Have an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) compatible microchip implanted prior to any required rabies vaccinations.
  • Be up to date on all required vaccines, with a current vaccination record that includes the rabies vaccine and microchip number.
  • Have a CDC Dog Import Form receipt (the CDC Dog Import Form is available on CDC's website). Upon successful completion of the form, a receipt will be autogenerated and immediately emailed to you. There is no charge for submitting this form.
  • Additional forms may be necessary dependent on which countries a service animal has visited in the last six months and depending whether the dog was vaccinated against rabies in the United States, or in another country.
  • For the most up to date CDC dog entry requirements, visit www.cdc.gov/DogTravel. For specific questions about CDC importation regulations, the CDC can be contacted directly at cdcanimalimports@cdc.gov.
  • If your itinerary includes a visit to Grand Turk, all service dogs are required to travel with full, approved documentation regardless of whether the dog will disembark in Grand Turk. Turks and Caicos Islands requires an import license, which must be approved and stamped by the Turks and Caicos government. Grand Turk also enforces breed restrictions, and no import license will be issued for restricted breeds. As such, restricted breed service dogs, or any service dog without all required documentation, will not be permitted to board the ship at embarkation.

General information to disembark in ports of call:

  • Many of our ports of call have established strict entry requirements for animals. Therefore, guests traveling with working service dogs must visit the Department of Agriculture website, or their service animal's veterinarian, to determine each destination country's policy regarding admission of working service dogs.
  • Guests are responsible for ensuring their service dog meets all port specific requirements at each port of call. Carnival Cruise Line does not manage or guarantee approval for service dog entry ashore and is not liable for actions taken by local authorities due to noncompliance, including but not limited to fees or quarantine.
  • Many of the ports you may visit will only accept annual rabies vaccinations and do not recognize three-year rabies vaccination.
  • Some ports may require handlers to present their service dog and original documentation for inspection upon arrival and may charge a fee for an agricultural representative to issue a landing permit. Any such fees are the responsibility of the guest.
  • Mexican ports require service dogs to have received an ecto-parasite and endo-parasite treatment no more than 15 days prior to arrival to port and this information should be included in the dog's health certificate. If you have any questions, please consult with your veterinarian.
  • Carnival is not responsible for limitations imposed on service dogs by entities or shore excursion providers in non-U.S. ports of call.
  • Nassau has restrictions for specific tours. Please contact shoreexcursions@carnival.com for further details.

CARE, FEEDING, AND RELIEF AREAS

  • You will be required to bring your own food for your service dog.
  • A relief area will be set up in a non-guest traffic area of the ship by our team. Should you prefer a specific material for your service dog, we ask that you bring it along and provide the Guest Access department with this information, pre-cruise. Service dogs are not to use any areas other than the assigned location to relieve themselves.
  • Service dogs are not permitted on furniture, or in food preparation areas, pools, whirlpools, saunas, or steam rooms. Service dogs are permitted in all other public areas of the ship, including dining areas, while on a leash.
  • Please know that you are responsible for the care and feeding of your service dog in the privacy of your stateroom. Service dogs may not to be fed in the ship’s dining room, buffet dining areas, or specialty restaurants.
  • Service dogs may not be left unattended in your stateroom and our ship's staff cannot care for the dog.
  • Service dogs must be on a leash when in common areas of the ship.
