Experience Bergen on a narrated drive, tour the house where Edvard Grieg composed many of his works and visit the authentic Fantoft Stave Church.
Board your motor coach for a narrated drive through Bergen, the second largest city in Norway. Pass by the old medieval city, including the 13th-century King Håkon's Hall, the 16th-century Rosenkrantz Tower, and Bryggen, a major trading center for the medieval Hanseatic League, where a line of re-created period buildings are protected by UNESCO because of their historical significance.
You'll pass the colorful open-air fish market at Torget and Grieg Hall, the city's new concert hall.
Continue driving through Bergen's suburbs en route to Lake Nordås and Troldhaugen. Surrounded by a superb park, the home of composer Edvard Grieg and his wife Nina is considered a national shrine. The charming home offers a glimpse into the life and times of this internationally acclaimed composer. Tour the house, see the hut where Grieg composed many of his works, take in a multimedia presentation on his life, and view the grave sites where the remains of Grieg and his wife lie side by side.
As a special treat, you'll attend a professional piano recital at the Concert Hall that may include some of his most popular works. On your way back to the ship, stop for a visit at the Fantoft Stave Church. Originally built in 1150 in Sogn, it was moved to Fantoft in 1883 and rebuilt just as it was before a fire.
