The Garifuna people represent a special sub-culture of Belize, having kept intact their unique African-indigenous hybrid ancestral language, spirituality, food, music and art. Get ready to be fully immersed in it! Upon arrival at the port in Belize City you will be escorted into one of our 31-foot SUV limousines. Once settled with your Garifuna guide attending to you, you will commence a driving tour around the best spots of the country’s largest city, Belize City. Your first stop will be a picturesque opportunity at the famous “Belize” sign and the historic Baron Bliss Lighthouse, which marks the grave site of one of Belize’s greatest benefactors. Your tour continues along the coastline where you will see and learn about the Memorial Park, the Taiwanese Embassy, the Central Bank of Belize, Her Majesty’s Prison, the Charles Lindbergh Monument, and many other colonial structures and historic neighborhoods. Then the fun really begins! You will arrive at your Garifuna cultural destination, located on the beautiful coast of the Caribbean Sea, where you will be greeted by music, dancers, drummers and songs. Get settled behind your easel with your wine, cheese, chips and salsa and your vivid imagination to become a master painter in minutes (no experience required). While painting, drinking and snacking you will take a deeper dive into the culture, and by the end we suspect you will be where most of our guests wind up – on stage with our musicians, dancing, drumming and singing away. When finished, you will have your masterpiece painting to take back to the ship, which will serve as a lasting memory of your amazing Belize/Garifuna experience.
