The street market in Cartagena is a little piece of the city’s culture and identity, and you’ll be able to experience it for a few hours. Your tour will begin with a guided walk through the Old City to Market Hall. This region, which produces some of the country’s best fruit and vegetables, is known as “the orchard of Europe” — and you can see why every time you visit the market. Take a leisurely stroll through the aisles as the tour guide accompanies you to different stalls and you watch the interactions between stallholders and their customers. You will see seasonal vegetables, fruits or fresh fish presented in each stall. You will also get to experience a traditional local specialty at each stall. Taste a local goat cheese cured in wine or giant olives stuffed with local products, among other things. Afterward, head to the local restaurant Posada Jamaica, where a professional local chef will welcome you with a glass of sangria before he starts cooking his signature dish, paella. The chef will explain step by step what it takes to create a classic Spanish dish. Once the meal preparation is complete, grab a plate and enjoy it with a local alcoholic delight, café Asiático.
