The fun starts when you board your bus for a drive through the Tlingit village of Hoonah en route to the bush country of the Spasski River Valley. Your expert guide will be on hand to provide details about the history and culture of Alaska's largest Tlingit settlement. At the river valley, you will learn about the local flora and fauna on a short walk along gravel and boardwalk-lined paths, through the temperate rainforest and over the delicate muskeg, to arrive at the viewing platforms overlooking the Spasski River. Here you may be lucky enough to view the magnificent Alaska coastal brown bears, who flock here all year long as their diet is 85% vegetation and the valley is the ideal place to feed before and when the salmon are running. Keep your eyes open for Sitka blacktail deer, land otters, salmon and bald eagles.
